Hey, I'm looking to do a very large mod that includes modding slot type cd burners. Along the way, I have discovered that there are very few good slot-type cd burners. If you know of a burner along with a retailer that delivers to the U.S., please let me know.
This thread should be in hardware! Anyway though, I want one too! Anyone ever seen one? I know I havent!
It sounds like a pretty good idea, and would slim a case down a lot. But I burn a lot of those 3" CD's for my MP3's and for Misc stuff. You can't use thise in Slot drives, nor burn them if you had one. Just some info tho think about. Other than that I have never seen one. Hmm, Ultimate mod? Change the guts of a Slot drive to work as a burner? VERY HARD, but may be possible?
thanks alot zapwizard, i also burn alot of those 3" cd-r's but didnt realize they would not work, hmm, i have alot of cd burners and slot type cd readers... Also, can standard slot type dvd players read the 3" burned discs?, may completely change the layout of my case
thanks man, u just saved me like $40, it looks like i will just have to do the tray type to make my case look uniform, oh well
i personaly wouldnt use a slot load CD-RW to much can go wrong with the positioning of the disc. and if it has the little bruses, Like in Car slot load CD players, it could damage the clear coat on the recording side enuf to make you burn a bad disc. a good thing to do with badly burned CDs (or snail mail AOL cd spam) is to take a few paper towels and layer them in your microwave, then take the cd place it DATA SIDE UP on the paper towels. Set the microwave to 5 SECONDS ONLY, ITS ALL YOU NEED on the HIGH setting. (any longer and you end up with a nasty smell of burnt plastics) and then watch through the little window of your microwave and push start. so much fun. I live in the USA and it hasnt trashed my microwave yet and iv done like 250 bad CDs to the microwave mod LOL. now i mention the USA thing cuz i dont know if things like microwaves use a different voltage inside then the american ones, the whole 115Vac to 220Vac thing. but6 give it a try its cool to watch and makes for a great drink coaster later, jest put some felt on the label side. NOTE : DOING THIS WILL DESTROY THE DATA ON THE CD, SO ONLY DO IT TO CDS YOU NEVER PLAN ON USING AGAIN
Its something todo with the amount of lazer radiation emission from slot loaders iirc. Very few conform to guidelines and there's not much research done on slot loading stuff and its not so popluar so companies simply dont do it.
