Very ncie site in fact... I think I just found my ideal starting point ^^ Gotta be damn expensive to get one of those over here though :/
Chevy F-bodies have a front sub frame, and a main frame built into the body. The tube frames are nice, but since the body sits on them the bodies need to be modded a bit. Tube frames are popular with drag racers and pro-am guys for the rigidity. Since I an more interested in a resto build, I would like to go with a subframe from these guys along with their rear suspension setup. It will improve the handling with out having to mod the body (as much) and keep it in line with the look and feel we want. I like the DS&E guys because they are all ex GM engineers and have licensed the original plans from GM.
WOW.. Just wondering, Isn't Trepanier the one who built a 1000HP twin turbo small block car a bit back ?(the Sniper i think) Another crazy azz car.
The SS is on delivery HOLD In amongst GM's other problems, they now have to deal with the new Camaro SS engine 'eating' front input shafts to the 6spd manual trans. Same trans as Viper but Camaro breaks em. GM says SS models on lots will not be sold and one's that are sold will not be delivered until a fix is found. They say they will probably have to recall the few that are on the streets. $40K and broken. Sad for a company trying to come out of bankruptcy. john
Probably a relatively cheap fix, just not a great PR thing. Then again, for those with a clearer head, it means the engine is truly awesome.
Not good PR at this time - but on a good news note GM was scheduled to bring in the Holden V8 and sell it as a Pontiac G8. Now they are talking about bring the G8 to Chevrolet as a Caprice. That would give GM a car for law enforcement and Sheriffs and Highway Patrol duty. They currently don't have a police vehicle except the Yukon sized 4x4. john
Speaking as a american car lover, and owner of 1 classic Chevrolet (67 Chevelle SS-clone) I do love the new Camaro, even if modern rules and regulations make it look big and fat. but I do however prefer the 69 camaro, and here in Norway it is cheaper to buy, own and insure than the new one... only uses more gas, and that is no problem with the milage that would be driven with a car like that...
I don't know why they have to make the fenders so high. Seems like every new car has really high fenders and window sills - maybe a side-impact safety thing? Cruising in my Maxima, the window sills are a few inches above my elbow. In newer cars, they're almost at my shoulder. The result of these high sides? The cars look very slab-sided. The cabin windows have to be very short so that the car isn't ridiculously high, so it looks out of proportion. And, to break up the huge expanse of fender sheetmetal, they're practically forced to put 19 or 20 inch wheels on it, which are way too big for anything besides a truck. Because anything smaller would look tiny next to the gigantic fenders.
they should have never stopped making the Caprice. that was rated the best police vehicle ever made. the Crown Vic was close but the Caprice still beat it. would be great to have GM police cars again.
I am elated at reading on the web this morning that the new Fiat leadership of Chrysler Group has decided to keep the Viper... a car that dreams are made of right there...
I bet john is related in some way to the moon landing projects, something designed or built by him at least.
Of course he is. He's done everything, don't forget. I bet he's not stayed in a job for more than 3 days before getting bored and moving on to something else.
