Could someone please let me know, now that the HD-DVD officially has been shelved is it true that there will be a Wii with Blue Ray hitting the shop floors sooner rather then later? Mant thanks SmutjeUK
I doubt it very much. The Wii hardware probably wouldn't be up to playback, and it would increase cost, which would go against the whole point of the Wii.
The Wii hasn't got the ability to output over 480p, im sure it dosen't even have HDMI which is a big sign.
I don't see that happening, as stated earlier they would have to adopt new hardware to run and playback blu-ray, and that's extra costs already, plus the licensing costs for nintendo to use sony's blu-ray would be a hefty amount. The wii is supposed to be a budget console for a quick game that gets people physically active, and its supposed to be simple and basic, nothing fancy. At least that's my opinion.
It would push the price up into near PS3 Territory. And besides, who wants the Wii menu when your sitting down to watch a Serious 18+ Movie?
No it's not powerful enough, it struggles to play modest H.264 SD stuff nevermind the huge bit-rate Blu-Ray movies have, it's unpossible and Oasked the Wii does play DVD's with a little homebrew hacking, it'll happily play them at full FPS
Never! ....adding blue ray to the will would double the cost of the console, which would mean loosing most of its customers. Blue ray might not even come to the xbox360 as it's been released for years now.
Wii can not display much high resolution ,it just developed by the motion reaction, for its market and goal, its game need`t much more space and bandwidth,so blue-ray is needless now at least.
