I know that THISis a limited edition card and all (apparently 1000 made), but holy **** batman... 14950 NAD for one of them? That's (roughly) 1196 GBP!!! For a graphics card? OMG!
    To put that into perspective:
That kind of money around here (and everything IT is expensive here) would buy me a full on new gaming rig. You're talking i7-920, GTX275, 6GB RAM, etc.

Tu further put that into perspective: The extreme edition i7-975XE costs 10925 (~874 GBP) here... and THAT'S ALREADY overpriced...

    it's ridiculous!

We've got one in. I don't know much about hardware, but this is the heaviest and most expensive thing I've seen down there in a long time.

I'm looking at it and I'm not seeing anything really special about it, bar the price.

It's not a proper GTX295 though is it? It's 2x285's in one package... Pretty potent.

The sad bit is that the people who are likely to buy hardware like this are (in my experience) the same people that know jack about PC's.
i know someone who bought 2 (!!!!) GTX285s when they shipped, and once the GTX295 was released he sh** his pants because he didn't have the best PC in the market anymore... so he's now thinking of spending money on 2 of those... WTF! The same man also spent 17K NAD (1360 GBP) on a Lian Li Case... that's a ripoff by any standards... but he paid that.

most people i know who are in to computers do that sorta thing once, realise they're being asshats, and move down to the level i usually stick at which is 'great but not poop your pants'. i spent £1700 on my last full system including monitor and peripherals and that usually happens about every 4 years, with occasional memory/hdd/gfx upgrades.

but i guess some people are either rich or stupid or both?

Beaten, I was going to say no, you would need to run it in Quad SLI at least.

We've just bought an ATI V8650 @ 1650 GBP :jawdrop: for a customer image capture workstation, it's a Xeon with 4GB ram and the PC is still cheaper than the graphics card.

Buy the Mars; you can have the fastest video card on the market for the next 3 weeks!

Then the ($500?) 5870 releases and perhaps ties/surpasses it for half the price?

That is the kind of person you hang around just to buy his 2 month old parts off of once he upgrades them. Don't have to pay shipping or anything!

anyone who knows jack about computers will understand that spending that much on hardware makes you an (I love this word, its used above too :p) asshat...

I have a 2 year old CustomPC Magazine (February 2007) and atm I'm laughing at how the £1000 systems have 2GB of RAM... fail

The AMD Athlon 64 FX-74, £600 when released but now an £80 AMD Phenom II X2 550 can beat it to a silicon pulp
