Our first one was a Commodore 64, then we got an XT 8 or 10 MHz (4.7 MHzTurbo off), IIRC. My first one was a 486DX2/66.

My first was a Compaq Deskpro that my dad salvaged from work, ran Win98SE and had about 128Mb RAM, I remember buying my first upgrade for it out of my first week's wages, 128Mb of 168 pin SDRAM :)

Oh yeah that's a point, my C64 (admittedly used for gaming only) and the 486 were not technically mine but the families.

My first computer is now in my brothers room, a P4 Prescott, with an ATI Radeon X300 or something like that.

    Quad Speed my friend

First computer was the Oric 1, such a simple yet brilliant little computer, similiar in size to the ZX80 but the Basic language was pretty amazing for the time, lots of built in sounds and routines. Upgraded to an Amiga A500 which was lightyears ahead, had a mouse and a proper GUI, then upgraded again to an A1200+ which I still have today mainly for the games(with a Blizzard MKIV 1230 accelerator that has a whopping 128MB of RAM!).

My first proper PC was bought to help with homework as they usually are, it was a Compaq presario 486DX with 8MB ram, quad speed CD rom drive an an ES audiodrive soundcard. It was an all in one type, with the monitor and innards being part of the same case, it ran Windows 3.1 with the tabworks addon which was quite novel, I still have many fond memories of playing Elite 2 and C&C on it. My dad upgraded it to Windows 95 at which point I lost interest because it was so slow! Eventually the 'family' PC was upgraded to a nice BLACK (black PCs are so much faster you know) P166 something or other - the last shop bought PC I've used domestically.

Does anyone remember typing out the pages and pages of code found at the back of some computer magazines or to get a mediocre game working? (Only to find you'd made a typo 3 hours later!) Those were the days lol

I only started building my own rigs 3-4 years ago (ish). First scratch build consisted of:

    Intel C2D E6600
    Asus Commando
    2GB GeIL Ultra 800Mhz DDR2
    Sapphire X1800XT 256MB
    Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 320GB
    Hipe Type-R 580W
    CoolerMaster Centurion 532

Happily powered through all games at the time at top settings on my 17" monitor... and thats where the addiction started. In the short time since that first machine i've had a E8600/X38 build, Phenom 9950/790FX system, QX6800/X48 rig and currently on a Phenom II/790GX box. I've genuinely lost count of the amount of PSU's watercooling setups, cases and RAM i've gone through. :S

Oh and my GD65 is upstairs waiting for a new project to cacoon around it.

    HALP!

    Crikey.

    Think it was:

    466mz Celeron on a slot A riser
    BX440 Mobo
64mb ram (upgraded to 128mb for somthing like 60 quid from pc world)
    15gig hard drive
    tnt 2 graphics card (dogshit)
    17" crt

The screen was AMAZING at the time when everyone ran 14/15" screens.

Swapped the graphics card out for a vodoo 3 2000 and the rest is history.

3dfx + unreal tournament ruined me.

Pentium 166Mhz , 32MB EDO, Yamaha ISA sound card, 1MB whatever ATI videocard , 1GB 5400RPM Fujitsu HD

back in january 97 it was a freaking beast. It played NFSII-SE great, espcially after we added a PowerVR-whatever card a few months later. It was an acceleration card. There was no output whatsoever on the card, which, thinking back. is quite special :)

I believe the first Voodoo card was like that as well

I still have my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI that we installed in the same PC about 2 years later. It still works fine and I even managed to run UT2K4 on it hahaha

I'm probably the only one here who had/has and still uses DOS only tablet. I take to Marilyn's chemo therapy and just type away. Save to CF card and put on PC later.

My family first *computer* was a BBC Micro with Expanded RAM/ROM board... wooo!

Then came the family 486sx33 (soon to be upgraded to dx33 - then dx66 - had to have the maths co-processor for most games) which started life with Windows 3.11 and Dos 6.2 but left this life with Windows 95.

MY first computer was an AMD 2500+ with 1GB Ram and a GeForce 6600GT...

Don't get me wrong because I am grateful of what I had but I can't remember the exact specs of the hardware and it had windows 95.
Got the computer system; monitor, printer, tower, speakers from local home shopping network or QVC.
I remember it was an Intel slot cpu, looked like a cartridge. maybe a Intel Pentium or Pentium II Processor 266 MHz.
I played tom clancy's rainbow six on it.

I started with a ZX spectrum 16k, which got a RAM upgrade within a few weeks, went on to a BBC model B (elite was cheesecake), C64, then an Amiga 500.

First "proper" machine was a blazing fast 486 dx2 66 with 4MB RAM 80MB HDD & win 3.11 for workgroups as an OS
