That hard drive doesn't look safe, stacked up. One push and it falls and dies...

Nice open case build mate, they run a bit cooler as well I think ;)

That was my thread with the pikey rig in the link spunky put above, out of interest why would it be a problem starting the machine up on an anti-static bag mate?

To create the anti-static effect, the black or silver bags are slightly conductive, forming a Faraday cage around the item to be protected and preventing any localized charges from being deposited onto the protected devices as the bags are handled.

True, but you are talking about such a minute amount of electrical conductance (probably an almost unmeasurable fraction of 1 siemens) that it makes no difference whether the board is run on the bag or not. I seem to remember that the Faraday cage is no longer in effect once the bag is opened anyway, so it loses much of it's (already minor) potential danger in this situation once the bag is opened and the component removed.

EDIT: Okay I take back the part about the almost unmeasurably small Siemens value. I pulled my old second year notes off the shelf and had a flick through. I forgot that siemens are measured all the way down to 10^-18 and beyond :jawdrop:

I really should look over these lecture notes more often
