Inspired by the likes of Jet Set Willy, but incorporating all the flair and wit that the modern indie community can muster, Distractionware's VVVVVV is an intelligent platformer that will flip your expectations on their head. Joe delves in to see if that's a good thing or just a way to bruise your brain.

It drives you mad, ive just had a quick go at the demo, got to the driller bit and kept stuffing it up. Ill have another go later. I think i like it though but dont know whether or not its worth its cost atm.

Fiendisly addictive and great music, it's got everything a classic plaformer should have. I agree with the cost though, if I had money to burn I'd have it (that's supposed to be a compliment) but with AvP on steam for £2.99, you can't argue with that value for money.

What I really want now is a AvvvvvvP :D

That's probably the trickiest bit in the whole demo. The music during the second level reminds me of Röyksopp. It's fun, but unless the game offers about four hours of playthrough it needs to be cheaper. Has anyone at BT towers completed it yet?

Joe has been playing more than 4 hours imo.

Am i the only one that thinks the captain and his crew look like sackboys?

If you like the music you can buy the soundtrack and download a bunch of free tunes at http://souleye.madtracker.net :)

Thanks for bringing this fun game to my attention. I wouldn't pay £9 for it though.

    small print for Bit-Tech only:
    a few lines need editing:
    "It’s about more about exploration"
"as if the captain could is naturally capable of it"
"You pass checkpoints once approximately once every other screen"
"VVVVVV’s speed though creates one rather larger problem though"

Fun game and all that. The problem is price here, plain and simple. Sell it for $5 and you'd have a purchase. Lots of indie developers seem to charge a lot more than their games are worth (Braid and World of Goo for $20? please!), and while I understand their plight, the fact is that I won't spend $15 on a game I can beat in an hour... even if it is innovative.

V6 looks interesting but it wouldn't be my first pick, or second, or third.

Played the demo and it is surprisingly fun; still too expensive for me though.

I like retro gaming but early 90s is about as far back as I can go in terms of graphics.

Finished level 1 and I was done with it really. It's a fun little game, but my Chuckie Egg memories murder it :D

    The price though? £9?!

Bioshock was £3 on the Steam sale. Think about that.

Any demo game in my cell phone can beat this ... MS Dos Soundtracker:naughty:
I can't understand why Joe could sit playing with it, especially when new big titles come every day, say err ... Bayoneta.
I think indie game maker should only care about graphic, the graphic card surely can help alot to compensate for the lack of story line and world detail. Without graphic, they are nothing.
