So I was just building my first pc, and there was aluminum foam on the i/o shield. I tried and install the motherboard onto the standoffs but it didn't fit. I removed the foam and now it fits, but did I make any mistake by removing the foam? I presume the q-shield is just an extra precaution and is not needed?
Another question, I have the AC freezer pro 7 cooler and an antec 300 case, which way should the fan be pointing, to the top of the case or the bottom?
it should be right to left not top or bottom so the air flow should be coming from the the front and out the back
you sure the foam was meant to be removed? i didn't remove my foam and pushed hard into the case to make it fit.... bit of effort i thought it was for sound damping.
im pretty sure its meant to be removed i mean if its takes a good amount of force to get in then it shouldnt be there. Now you got me thinking and doubting myself
It's not meant to be removed, and luckily enough it had enough glue left on it for me to stick it back on and everything is fine again. I've pointed the fan of the heatsink towards the front of the chassis, is that right?
it's there to stop you cutting your pinkies and generally just be nicer and and more sturdy than the shileds without foam. take it off if you want... but you spoil all Asus's good work
It's not meant to be removed. I think the idea is that it stabilises the ports to prevent idiots breaking them by applying lateral force, makes the shield stronger, and also it compensates for small differences between cases so that the I/O shield always fits. Mine was a bit of a struggle too (it's not a very good system) but it fit eventually. I don't think removing the foam will cause any problems, though.
