How can this possibly be considered slim? It's still a brick, just a slightly smaller brick...

Oh dear god, it is official. and looks even worse when the ring of lights is on. Looks hideous, like what people thought futuristic was 10 years ago... ugh

According to Joystiq the loudest part of the 360 is still the same, i.e. the dvd drive. So no, it's not whisper quiet as everyone is reporting. :grr:

The 360 only ever had an external HD-DVD drive, which was probably quite quiet, but only about 10 people bought one. The normal DVD drive was possibly the loudest they could find.

About the hard drive. I just found out is is removable. But sits between the PS3 and the old 360. It is hidden inside and can be removed. But its not quite as nice as the old one, and it isn;t as customisable as the PS3 as it doesn;t look liek you can get *any* HDD and whack it in.

I just watched a video of two guys with that Xbox and the HDD is a standard Laptop HDD in a caddy. Watch the video @ http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/xbox-360-slim-unwrapped-and-unboxed/? Carefully look at thye HDD when they take it out. You will see the connections are Identical to a SATA HDD.

Its not one bit noisey. Watch the video. They put a microphone up tho the Xbox and its very quiet with a disk in the DVD tray unlike the old Xbox 360 which was loud when a disk was in the tray even before the disk was being read.

Hmm well that's nice that joystiq was wrong. Now that these are quiet, might have to pick one up.

Interesting, a slim version of the 360 was the only way I was ever going to buy one (couldn't justify spending money on a console I knew would break). Hopefully this will be cool, quiet and better built.

I like the PS3, but all my friends have 360's. So it's a no brainer with online multiplayer these days.

I'd give it 6 months - they may have also redesigned the Red Ring of Death...

Considering they revealed it from inside the shell of a normal 360, I don't see that being the case.

I think it's quite nice looking really, and it's quite tempting to try and offload my elite and upgrade to this given that I was after a 250gb hdd for it anyway.
