I know it's been said before but simply copying the whole steam folder does work. The next time you start steam it will simply reinstall the service(s) by itself and things will be just like before. You do have to backup your saved games that were saved locally however and obviously they all save to a different place depending on the game....
71 games total, not entirely sure how big that is (no net on my main PC atm) but its going to be big. (My ID) about 60 of them are installed. And if we include some mods for those games *cough*Gmod*cough* Its going to be scarily big.
Aren't you guys afraid to get your steam account stolen somehow ? I find it kind of ridiculous that so much money can be stolen by a simple password change. LANs are pretty dangerous for that ..
I registered as a user just to reply to this post... because im ever so slightly embarrassed to say that my games folder is currently 794 gig... and i bought mass effects and mass effect 2 today so that will add approx 22 gig more by tomorrow plus the games that i recently uninstalled... i just never realized i had so much more crap than the norm. mugz.
You win! Have a look in the Steam settings and verify your email address with Steam, that way anyone who gains access to your Steam account can't change your password and thereby can't remain in control. However they can still get your punkbuster or VAC protected games banned - a problem which really needs an adequate solution.
0gb. All mine are retail. However, the next time a sale comes around I may just have to bite as some deals are just too good to pass up.
Thought I'd update this. Current steam folder is 144GiB. Current backup folder is 416GiB. Hopefully it won't rise too much with the summer sales....
115GB installed at the moment. It peaked at 180GB installed once and could probably pass 200GB now, but it's really not fair to count all of that since plenty is from developer/collector packs with games I'll never play.
I tend to only keep games installed that I play repeatedly. Even if I know I'll play them in 6 months again, I'll delete it until I need it. The only ones I keep installed are the ones I play very often, like TF2 for instance.
around 120GB 81 Games installed (some are smaller than others) I get around 1MB/s on my cable connection when downloading new content.
What about those of us with more than one system? I think it's somewhere around 90GB... well it is on the PC with a fair few installed and the rest sitting in the cloud. On my Mac it's under 8Gb but that's with only HL2, HL2 EP1 & Portal installed. And +1 for just machine a file level backup of your steam folder, I've never had issues on getting steam to re-connect to a moved / restored folder.
124GB 54 Games/34 installed, by the end of this sale though thats likely to increase quite significantly!
