Anyone got any idea why me Win 7 x64 rig wont pick up any WU's?

Its the Win MPICH SMP client, all set up as normal it starts off, connects to Stanford ok but will just not get any work, internet connection is fine, GPU clients are picking up work fine, other SMP clients on other rigs on same connection are fine but this win 7 rig just wont get work. I just keep getting Attempt #14 to get work failed...

Have rebooted, re-installed it, its got the new binary drop in blah blah blah, hmmm, any ideas?!

    Turn of UAC?

    Run as administrator?

    Disable firewall?

Have you tried it without the bigadv parameter? Just to test?

Have you just switched from a2's...

Do you need to re-qualify with 10 std a3's, before picking up -bigadv WU's. Can't remember if I did when I switched?

I finally got time to switch mine over last night and had exactly the same issue.

I first assumed it was because it appeared the binary drop in expired on sunday.

Decided to have my tea and think about it and at about attempt 12 it picked up a bigadv.

Possibly not a lot of bigadv work available?

Mine appears to be running fine now.

    Any joy yet Coola?

Same problem, on all clients, when I switched back to Vista/XP at the weekend. Contrary to my experience on Linux, changing advmethods to yes quickly enabled them to pick up a bigadv wu. Could have been coincidence but they've picked the next one OK as well.

On a side note, bigadv A3s in Windows appear to be much more stable than Linux. Closing and reopening a client has worked without error so far.

Any idea of the ppd drop compared to the linux ones?

I'm considering changing a couple of rigs over if I can get more than 20k ppd from each box.

Disappointingly, they're roughly the same ppd as A3s in linux with 920s at 3.8 GHz (dropped OC during Summer heat) getting around 20K ppd.

The main advantage is that you avoid the crushingly bad ppd from 6701 wus while running them. A glut of these provoked the changeover to Windows bigadv.

What kind of hardware are you guys running your i7 rigs on? I was thinking of building my first i7 folder.

    I7 920
    P6T (SE is fine)
    6GB RAM
    Titan Fenrir/Akasa Nero/Watercooling

Then cheapest gfx card if using Linux or you can add a couple of decent GPU's if using Windows
    Any HDD
A 600w psu is loads for linux, go larger if you're adding 2 big gpus

Ah, a P6T. Interesting. I was considering a UD3R but the 3 slots on the P6T makes sense. Would be nice to run the i7 with 3 8800's onboard. You reckon perhaps a 750w PSU would cover them?

Same as sas. The SE became the low cost team mb of choice for i7s late last Summer when bigadv first appeared. After trying various options I now tend to go for Corsair HX series for PSUs as they have never failed in any of my rigs, with the most recent purchase being the 850w HX (more efficient than the original 1kw version).

Even with recent events I believe it's a good choice if you decide to go the i7 route Ph4lanx. They don't hog the road quite as much as when the A2 bigadv was around but are still fairly cost efficient as far as ppd/w is concerned.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm considering setting up a rig with an i7 920/920 running at 3.8+, along with another 3 8800's, so I'll see how it goes.

I'm also eyeing up another 2nd hand rig.
