I've almost finished the following rig,

    Case - Corsair 600T Graphite
    Motherboard - Asus P7P55D-E Pro
    CPU - Intel Core i5-760
    RAM - 4GB Corsair XMS3 PC3-12800
    Cooling - Thermaltake Frio
    GPU - 1GB Gigabyte GTX 460
    PSU - Undecided
    Storage - Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB

I was wondering what PSU to put with that lot, I was thinking of getting the Antec True Power 650W, or is it worth spending an extra £30 for the 750W ?

I'm gonna be running another GTX 460 SLI in a few months aswell hopefully so will that 650W be enough ?

Or if anyone else can suggest a better power unit it would be appreciated :D

Also, instead of making a new thread for it, is the Gigabyte the best 1GB version of the 460 to get ? I've heard people say the MSI is just as good if not better.

I have a similar setup (in my sig). Initially, before the SSD and the second 460 I was running happily on a Corsair HX520.

The reason I went to 750W is because I want the PSU to last its warranty period and cope with future upgrades to LGA1366 or whatever comes out.

The Antec is a great PSU, but do be aware it's only partially modular. More cables than just the standard two motherboard cables (24 and 4/8 pin) are hardwired; some SATA power IIRC.

Possibly worth doing a comparison between Antec, Corsair and Seasonic.

Your rig should use about 400W at most. 650W is good enough but more isn't going to do any harm. Most power supples are most energy efficient at 50% anyway.

However I do recommend a quality power supply over a higher capacity one. Find one 80 Plus Gold before looking for higher capacities.

The nonmodular cables on the Antec for drives (Molex Sata and Floppy) are all on the same cable so it doesn't really affect Airflow too badly. And there is enough of them on there for most users so nothing else needs to be plugged in.

Two of the graphics card connectors, 1 6 pin and 1 6/8 pin are also connected directly, again both on the same cable.

A good 650W PSU, like the Antec Truepower New, is going to be absolutely plenty for that system, even when you add another GTX 460.

TBH the 750W version probably isn't the best option for a 750W PSU, considering the other options around that price point.

I've decided I'll be buying a new PSU before I go ahead and stick in another 460 with SLI, so all I need for this rig is just a power supply that can handle the 1 460, do I need a 650W or will less do ?

Agreed. The 650 is superb value right now and at 750 there is more of a discussion to be had.

Just posted this in another thread:

"The Antec TruePower New 650w and the XFX 650w XXX are both £70 @ Scan although the Antec is listed at £65.79 @ Aria and £59.37 @ LambdaTek."

I have never bought from LambdaTek, anyone?

The 650 XFX didn't get the same quality review that the 750 and 850 got from Mr Jonny.

ordered some DDR3 from them at the same time as a few other components from other sites, this was nearly a year ago. the DDR3 arrived a day earlier than everything else. they even emailed to check it had arrived as well as a merchant satisfaction survey. Not had to deal with their support or returns.

The Today Only part of the site has been updated and it's not on there anymore, not that I can see anyway.
Just ordered it at the normal price of £70 anyway :)

Have the same PSU here now, hoping to install this weekend. How quiet is the fan?

Dead silent, I can't hear it. The loudest thing in my rig is the HD.

For some reason I've seen 2 reviews of the 750w model that show it isn't as rock solid as the 650w

I can assure you that the 650 will be plenty for the 460's in SLI, not only have I done my own research with a similar spec to yours but it has passed the test in nvidia labs too so they've approved it for 2 460's on their site.
