    Hi Guys,

I am not sure if this has already been asked before, but I am planning to upgrade from onboard video to either GTX470 or GTX295. Because it seems my friend's 9800gx2 does not work on my setup, hopefully it can still be fixed. Anyway, both cards price range between US$200 and US$250 in my country (Philippines). These are second hand cards; well, graphics cards aren't cheap where I am from. Which one do you think is the best choice? I only have an XFX 750-Watt power supply. Oh, and my favorite game titles are as follows, I hope this list could help. Eye candy is also one factor, and of course, playable if not high frame rates. Oh, and I am using Windows 7 operating system and my maximum resolution as of now is 1366 x 768, but planning to upgrade to a 32" inch LED TV with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) on January (if Santa comes, hehe).

    • NBA 2K Series (NBA 2K11)
    • Medal Of Honor
    • Call of Duty : Black Ops
    • Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2
    • Battlefield : Bad Company 2
    • Need for Speed : Hot Pursuit 2010
    • StarCraft II : Wings of Liberty
    • Diablo III (If it still coming)
    • Assassin's Creed Brotherhood

Many thanks! Your help will be much appreciated. :D

A new GTX 460 would probably be a better move, with a 2-year warranty :=)

definately go for the faster single GPU, which is gtx470. it'd give you trouble-free performance.

Thanks! Is GTX460 better than GTX470? I am choosing between GTX470 and GTX295. Is GTX460 a better option?

    Okay, GTX470 = 1, GTX295 = 0

470 is better performing than 460 stock speeds but the 470 reference cooler is pants hence very hot and very loud. If your going for a 470 go for one with a custom cooler like the zotag amp edition.

460 overclocks like crazy tho so you could go for a preoverclocked 460 then overclock it further and get close too or maybe better than 470 performance.

    There's a review of a 460 on the main bit-tech page that I think almost beats a 470.

The heat and noise of the 470 have been exaggerated imo - mine tops out at around 76c and is no louder at 70% fan speed than my old gtx260.

One other option thogh , the 570gtx is supposed to be released soon (next week ?) , might be worth waiting for that provided nvidia don't price gouge too much...

Thanks for your comment, but I am on a tight budget, so brand new graphics card is not an option at the moment.

70% fan speed aye.. I can tell you those fans they use aren't quiet

yeah the thing with the 460 is it oc's well- the non ref cooler designs look like they are doing the job too.. msi hawk/talon attack, gigabyte super oc.. at 900 clock the 460 keeps up with a stock clocked 5870 and beats the 470- check out the msi hawk article on bit, I run those speeds here on a ref cooler..

a lot of guys don't oc though.. so if your a stock guy- buy up.. I wouldn't go for the 470 or 480 though my filipino bro =] your just asking to wear headsets to game

of course a fanboy will tune it out and lube up huang if given the chance.. just bad design.. they look like they've fixed it in the 580

Thanks you guys! I am putting my plan to buy a new graphics card on hold 'cause the 9800gx2 that was given to me might still have a chance to work. Sooner or later though, I will still need to upgrade. So, please feel free to fill-in your suggestions.
