os i recently upgraded my ram from 2GB (2x1GB) to 4GB (4x1GB) and when i go into resource monitor it shows that the 2GB is hardware reserved, what i would like to know is how do i fix this problem. I am running a core 2 duo e6850@ 3.1 GHz on a gigabyte p31-DS3L on another note i have noticed that cpu-z shows the full 4GB of ram but says that the dram frequency is running at 414.0MHz. hope that helps, thanks in advance
CPU-z is showing the actual freq of the RAM not the effective freq which is what you normally use when buying DDR or doule data rate can transfer twice per clock so a RAM freq of 414mhz is effectively 828mhz. do you have Intergrated GPU ? if so check the bios isnt eating up and force it to 256MB or something along the lines of.
Is the extra memory "hardware reserved"? I've seen that before, fix is something to do with enabling memory remapping in the BIOS. edit to add I had this on upgrade from Vista -> 7. Fixed by running msconfig and unticking the 'Maximum Memory' option on the "Boot" tab.
ok thanks for the replys adam_bagpuss: thanks for that wont forget that soon Deders: i am running windows 7 64bit Palmski: maximum memory is already unticked and i went into the bios and there's nothing i can see that refers to memory remapping well take photo of the menus in the bios.
might be a board issue, as in that particular model maybe limited to 2gb per socket scrap that just reread, and saw 4x1gb found this on gigabyte website, pay particular attention to red writing, it may explain your problem
That could make sense, as a guide I've noticed mine has 9MB hardware reserved which could explain the extra 2 over 2048 on yours.
