    Yeah, she is my partner, therefore she has a say.

    Now, I'll grant you...sometimes what she doesn't know, doesn't hurt her :D.

    That said this maybe should have been a "what she doesn't know" scenario, but we worked something out that we both are happy with. Its not like it turned in to a knock down drag out fight or anything.

    Trying to figure out maybe some other names to use next. I guess it depends on what I am adding to the network. I am thinking Kestrel, sparrow or finch if it is something "small" like a VOIP device (well, supposing it supports NETBIOS naming) or a small NAS for media streaming. Probably go with something more majestic like Pegasus or similar if it is a full up computer.

    Name them based on location / use?

    Aka Bedroom 1 etc even though its VERY generic. I normally just name the pc after the primary user. My brothers laptop is Mikey's laptop, brothers desktop is John's pc, parents pc is the "home pc" sisters netbook is "Sara's netbook". My pc is the only special one and I labelled it "Black Momba"

    A place I worked a few years ago, used the Meaning of Liff to great success. Everyone liked it except the guy who's machine was called "wetwang"...

    You wanted one thing, and she wants another. There's no comprimise, it's simply her way.

    I wouldn't be proud of resorting to keeping secrets from her, that's really wimpy imo.
    Why is it so hard for the BOTH of you, to simply respect one another?

    and my computers are all based on how i named my first computer: 'tintinic'.
    why, i don't know anymore (i was 12 or so). subsequent computers where
    tintiny(netbook)
    tintantec (antec desktop)
    tintinic² (new desktop)
    tintipad(ipad)
    ect...

    Back in High School I changed all my classrooms PCs to names/monsters from the Overfiend hentai series xD

    Otherwise, my PC is just called Deadbolt

    My HDDs on the other hand, have some names I don't know where the **** i got em from...

    If my work, a multinational company, worth millions can't speciy an appropriate naming convention for our servers, I don't see how anyone can.

    It's bloody ridiculous. Some are just random characters.
