So I just put the computer together last night. This evening I tried to turn it on for the 1st time. Only 1 fan is spinning on the graphics card... and the computer monitor shows nothing. This isn't normal right? I'm thinking, is this a problem with the power supply? or the graphics card??
p8p7 asus motherboard i5 2500 3.3 cpu 4gig corsair ram MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II/OC graphics antec true power trio 650 psu (2 years old) tranquillo cooler antecbig boy fan and 912 plus haf case. I tried turning it on a couple of times and the monitor is blank. turn off and on again and it just wouldn't start... tried a few more times, it would start for a second and then stop again.... When it decides to run everything is running apart from the rear end fan and 1 of the graphics cards fans.... I'm thinking it's the psu... or could it be the graphics card??? What should I do!!
Just to check all angles, you do have both 6 pin power leads plugged in to the graphics card don't you, sorry to ask but sometimes the easy things get missed..
Yea I do have them connected... I tried swapping the pins around to see if it was the connectors problem, but alas, the same fan is immobile. It looks like it's trying to start, it kind of wobbles for a split second and stops.
The psu isn't turning the computer on at all now... I guess it's the psu... hmm....Is it strange that this Anter true power trio 650 is broken after 2 years.? I bought it at the time to replace the psu in my dell just so i could add a gpu to it.. sapphire 3850 hd....
Certainly sounds like the psu, last thing you could try is running it all out of the case just in case you have a short between the mobo and the case somewhere.
Ok, So I just put in my old sapphire 3850... it appears to be working fine (fan spinning), but again, nothing appears on the monitor... The psu seems to working too... It starts off and then stops... and then slowly it starts again into action. I'm wondering what on earth is happening... Why is nothing appearing on the monitor? could it be a motherboard problem?
Does the 2500 not include an inbuilt gpu. Do you need to go into the bios and change it to pci-e, I know this was the case with my daughters mobo that had a built in gpu, not sure about cpu's with gpu's as I've not used one yet.
But I mean without a gpu where am I supposed to plug the monitor into... right? so, if nothing comes up on the monitor... what could be the issue? cpu? motherboard? PSU? graphics card? I put in everything really carefully etc...
Nah the point I was trying to make is irrelevant with your board I think. You are running the p8p67 board right, is it the LE or deluxe?
Saemilin Have you plugged in the 8 pin power connector? I have had a couple of these p8p67 boards. The first one I had died on its arse after about 30 seconds of starting it up for the first time, second one is okay but throws randomness at me constantly. Could be the board itself if its not the PSU. As a last resort I would try and clear the CMOS but that would be clutching at straws. When it does come on, do the keyboard lights respond to CAPS LOCK etc? You could just be another victim of the Sandybridge experience. I have had boards from two different manufacturers in seperate machines now and both have shat the bed. Regards Eddie
This is a good idea also. Is your RAM 2x2GB? If so try running them one at a time in the blue slots then try the black slots. A risky option is to remove the CPU and check the socket itself for bent pins. This is risky because removing the CPU and reseating it is asking for, well, bent pins (I have done this myself). Regards Eddie
Everything seems to be working fine now. All but the fan on the msi twin frozr gpu... I'm getting that returned to scan ASAP. Just checking, it's not normal that only 1 fan is spinning right? kk
Good to hear! Its awful when a new build doesn't go to plan. In regards to the video card, I think both fans should be spinning. I don't know this for a fact though, try emailing MSI or posting on MSI's community board (I think they have one). Eddie
should def be both fans spinning. i have two and have had not problems so far (fingers crossed) sorry to hear about your troubles mate
