I hear the i7 2600K is only really beneficial for multimedia software such as video editing or 3D rendering software etc?

I had my suspicions, thanks for clearing that up.

    OK so here's what I need to get my hands on for my finalised build;

    Intel i5 2500k = £150
    MSI P67A-GD53 = £105
    Corsair Memory Vengeance 4GB DDR3 1600 MHz = £38
BeQuiet Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler = £43
    Fractal Design Define R3 = £80
    64GB Crucial m4 = £90

Already have my BenQ2200HD, GTX 560 Ti Amp! Edition, Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB, 600W OCZ GameXstream.

If you guys can suggest any last tweaks I'll be buying these as soon as the mobo and cooler comes back in stock at scan :)

not sure, but the vengeance ram heat spreaders might interfere with that cpu cooler. better safe than sorry and just grab some ram with low-profile spreaders, like xms3

otherwise, smokin rig...let us know how it goes...

my aprtment smells of leather-bound books and rich mahogany

Can anyone else confirm this, I think that would be odd because these two are both featured in the suggested mid-price gaming pc in mag #95

I'm kind of important you know ;)

It depends which Vengeance - there's some with high heatsinks and others looking more like the XMS series.

To be honest it would just be safer to go with the XMS3 stuff, the heat spreaders aren't necessary.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

    You stay classy, San Diego.

This may be a moot point as it seems that Vengeance just squeezes in acording to the above post, but if you did get XMS3 instead I couldn't get it to boot in dual channel with the MSI (Scan tested the XMS3 sticks and they booted fine in their rig, different mobo, so it wasn't a duff set). I swapped it out for the below 1.35v kit and had no issues.

Edit: Doh! Just realised that's the Asus board in the pics

Will the MSI P67A-GD53 not give the RAM a bit more clearance as apposed to the p8p67s? Anyone with a MSI P67A-GD53 and a dark rock advanced managed to fit the vengeance in???

It would seem odd for CPC to recommend this combination without having tried it themselves! >.<

Mine fits fine, though 1 RAM bay was covered, but wasn't the ones you use for dual channel anyway. :)

My Vengeance fits fine on my board with the Dark Rock cooler, it covers 1 RAM slot, but not the ones you'd use anyway. ;)

either way, why chance it? the sexy heatsinks do nothing for the performance. just grab the xms3 and be done with it.

I'll stick with XMS3 corsair ram then, probably not worth the hassle :D
