Hi guys a quick question what should i keep out of these 2 GPU's: 1. MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II 2. Asus 5850 DirectCU The reason i have 2 GPU's is im stupid, let me explain, i got the 5850 first as i did a part exchange deal with my gtx 580 and they added cash on top. the problem started when my TV display was not showing up no matter what i did i kept getting 'no signal' even Fingers66 tried top help (thanks! ) but no luck. So thinking it might be an issue with the 5850 i bought from the gtx 470. Again the same problem 'no signal' after an hour of trying i decided to to try one last thing and that was to try a different HDMI cable, you can guess what happened next it worked. So i tried it with the 5850 and it worked. So to cut a long story short what should i keep and what should i sell??? Yes i feel like an idiot
I say keep the 470. It outperforms the 5850 in nearly everything and because you have one with a decent cooler, you shouldn't suffer from the heat that affected the stock cooler models. The ability of the 470 to deal with AA better than the 5850 is the biggest decision factor for me, coupled with the increased VRAM. The only real downside of the 470 compared to the 5850 is the power consumption but if your PSU can handle it, I say what the hell.
thanks fingers for your help before! i cant belive i didnt check the cable, and what do people always say check the cable first before anything
LOL. Good idea but I am not sure you would get enough to buy new. The cheapest GTX 580 @ Scan is the PNY @ £342. I think you would be about £100-£140 short, more if you wanted a better GTX 580. However, you should be able to get a GTX 570 new...
the whole point of getting rid of the gtx 580 was because i have just been made redundant and i needed the money so i thought get money plus a GPU would be perfect
Reselling the GTX 470 would net you more than reselling the 5850, it boils down to what GPU performance you want/need.
I would keep the 5850. I've had both and think there's much more difference in the power consumption than in performance.
