...and you make it all sound so easy and matter-of-fact...
Wow, someday I might have half these skills (if I'm lucky)... Good job and keep it going!

    thx my friends!!!

oh thats only because the most things aren´t that complicated when you have done them often enough :D
And i can say that because when we started over with our first mods, we also had only left hands just see it as an endless learning process....:thumb:

Today i´ve got another update for you:

In the last days we started the painting process of the case....

Then we made a first test of all LED´s together (upper and lower part) to see where we have to add more of them :D

the hearts for the outside were also painted with the first coats of filler & basecoat

and we made a first short test video of the opening/closing function of the case

Those optical drive motors work so well.

The quick open and close looks just like the mechanical objects in portal 1 & 2

yeah, that was what we were hoping for

In the last days we finished those little hearts for the outside....the first one is already mounted under the bottom of the case :D

beside that we also prepared the mainbase ...

    thx a lot m8´s!!!

And also a big Thank You for the MOTM nominee!!!!

Next week the Gamescom 2011 will open it´s doors for the masses....(and the german Casemodding Mastership is just 1 week away)....so it was time to finish this build...

First we finished the outside of the case: For that we had to mount/assemble the last parts (like the hearts) so that the outer shell was complete...

Beside that we had to make a few changes in the programm for the arduino...just to ensure that everything works fine (while opening/closing the case)

And last but not least we had to finish the paintjob.... so that our cube looks older and a bit rusty/weathered.....

but now it´s time for the final pics.......(and a short video of the airbrush/ last electronic test)

I love the concept, I just wonder if the computer you build into it will actually run? Seems like there won't be much airflow inside this WCC?

Watching, but only time will tell if this will be a triumph

    O.O

    Sure, why not

we already used that board over a year in a nearly closed plexiglas case (Project Vibe), only with a few openings for ventilation (much smaller than those in the cube)....and had never any problems with heat....and also at the moment....@the Gamescom...it is running fine all day long....

This week the annual 24 h live casemodding competition within the german casemodding mastership takes place....naturally we´re in and everybody is working on their cases...and here are the first pics ....

hi and thx a lot m8!!

the answer to your question is relatively simple we used an arduino combined with a few motor H-Bridge´s, there are maybe easier/cheaper ways to solve it, if you´re an expert in electronics...(we´re not...so we had to find an easy way :D)

To get a short introduction to this you can also read THIS tutorial from the arduino playground (it´s much better explained than i ever could) and if you need help with the code just let me know than i can send you our sketches :thumb:
