Yeah my system hasn't done bad. An intel E2200 overclocked with some old ass DDR2 lol can run W.O.W on high gfx settings. Your system is still pretty good though regardless of new tech
Nah i get what you mean but they've set a goal and with the level of Intel's current CPU's, I think they'll try and hit the mark best they can but I think they have to reach 20% because of Bulldozers 3.8GHz CPU's. No doubt Hawell will rock the gaming world with the addition of the DDR4 release. The DDR4 is already in production I think though so those numbers should be about right.
Lots of informations. So, who are the best shops to purchase from? I've got Dabs, RL Supplies, not so keen on OC as I had two bad experiences with them. Anyone else? Also, cases, I quite like Antec, but I'd like more USB and a firewire at the front. If all else fails, I could reuse my Antec. I'm planning to keep hold of the E6600 for someone else, so I need to buy a case anyway.
I bought all my stuff through Scan on the recommendation of this forum and I've had no problems. Had to RMA a dead motherboard, the customer support guys on the phone were good, mobo now replaced and waiting for me to unpack and install it You can't really go wrong. Aria and Novatech are other good etailers. Idk any cases with firewire at the front, you might have to do your own research there.
What sort of power rating do you think I'll be needing for a new system? Can't even remember what I've got now. 600w? And is LGA1155 the socket to be going for?
Think an LGA1155 is best, LGA1366 is for high end systems. Not sure why there's an LGA1156 but you want 1155.
Try not to get your expectations up to much on potential overclocks as only a small percentage can hit 5ghz on air. My i5 2500K needs a lot of CPU volts to run at 4.6Ghz (1.40 volts). Luckily I have a good cooler to keep temps down but I think the highest overclock I could get would be 4.7 to 4.8ghz at most and that would probably require 1.50 volts, which I don't want to put through my CPU for an everyday overclock. I think that most chips will comfortably get to 4.4ghz (which is still a nice overclock) if you want anymore you will just be playing the CPU lottery.
Hi xp-T The problem with my CPU is not temps as I have a good cooler. The problem is that it needs lots of volts to get it stable. I have seen other people saying that they use far lower volts than me to achieve better overclocks. I think I was just unlucky in the CPU I got. And yes anything over 4ghz is far more power than I probably need (well except for Video encoding), but I did have visions of getting the magical 5Ghz overclock.
Socket 1155 is for the current generation of core iXXXX processors (note the 4 digit processor number), while 1156 was for the previous generation of core iXXX processors (3 digit processor number). The socket numbers refer to the number of pins that connect the processor to the motherboard. You only need to worry about socket 1155. Neil
Would this be a good drive choice? http://www.dabs.com/products/wester...en-sata-600-64mb-3-5--7G12.html?refs=56330000 in terms of speed, cache etc?
Right, I've been shopping. So far I have; 800w power supply Antec P193 V3 case Asus P67 Sabretooth motherboard Intel i7-2600k processor 8gb of Patriot 1866mhz DDR3 (more to come too) And two Western digital 2TB hard drives - each 138mbps, Raid 0 to 276mbps. Still deciding on graphics, GTX560TI 2Gb or GTX570 1.2Gb. I opened the box and looked at the P193V3, looks good, filters on the front aren't as good as my P180. But I notice two grommets at the back, wonder if they're for tubes to mount an external water cooling radiator? Is there such a thing?
Remember with Scan you can get free shipping when you register yourself as a member of this forum with them, that will save you £20-30. When I order from them that free shipping is the equivalent to a free Dark Rock Advanced cooler, not bad for a freebee.
