Hi guys, this is will be my first and last question. I have got AMD HD 5870 and it's pretty cool, but I know this will be suck soon, and as a logical guy decided to upgrade or improve my system. so I would do one of the following 1.add another HD5870 and cluster it (Cross-Fire) 2.forget AMD and go ahead the nVIDIA (GTX 570) I will be so thankful if someone help. thanks.
my system is always at process, I'm a programmer and some of my processes are done with GPU. according to my calculation, my HD 5870 will slow down the process of my work flow, and I should think about an upgrades. as a logical decision, I think two HD 5870 will be better than one GTX 570, but it also has it's complex structure. I haven't work with more than one GPU and don't know it will be really 2X faster or not, also I'll not bet my life on my suggestion.
2gb 6950 if your playing with more than 1 screen. 1.3GB and 2.GB 570 if your res is above 1920x1080 or a 2gb 6870, 6950, 6970 If your playing at 1920x1080 then more 1GB is fine, more then 1GB + 6870, 6950, 6970 460, 460ti, 570 Can get 2 gb in all three AMD's Can get 1.3GB and 2.GB on 570
The HD5870 is still bloody fast. The GTX 570 won't net you that much of a performance boost at any rate. Although perhaps it's tessellation is much more powerful, honestly, just stick with it. And later on if you do happen to find a cheap HD5870 crossfire it and you'll be set for ages.
many thanks Elton, I've worked with both nVIDIA and AMD products, but I found AMD better, maybe I'm wrong! and I'm still wondering why HD5870 is more expensive than HD6780, it's also true about HD6970 and 5970!
i agree that theres no need to upgrade from a 5870 just yet. but when the time does come to upgrade, sell the 5870 and buy another, single, more powerful card. crossfire causes too many compatibility and scaling issues. some games actually run worse on multiple GPUs. youll always get more stable and predictable performance from a single card. not to mention the incredible energy wasted (and heat generated) by two cards.
5870 to 570 isn't worth the money upgrading. Not that much different Same with 5870 to 6950. Bit of a waste of money imo Second hand 5870 for crossfire would be sweet if your motherboard has 2x pcie 8 or 16 slots Otherwise wait for the next gen cards in a few months
thanks guys I appreciate your corporation. seems I need to wait until new generation of GPUs, PCI-E 3 maybe. anyway, I hope AMD will surprise us with something supreme.
I'm still on the 4870 and it's still doing me fine (just about ). Until you start playing games that your card starts to struggle i'd upgrade then. The price of cards is only going to go down over time and you can make your decision then.
The HD5870 is still very nice and powerfull. Why do you need do upgrade it if you only play at 1080p ? GPGPU ... I'd go with a dedicated rig with 4x less powered GPU (folding rig ?). What count is the amount of processing core ... and it would cost less to have more entry level card but have 4/5/6/7 of them (look at rig with 5/6 GTX450 for example). I'd suggest buying a mobo with 6 or 7 pci-e, a simple CPU (AMD phenom) and fill all pci-e with affordable Radeon cards if you really need a number cruncher. You won't get much by changing you 5870 for a 69x0 (even a 6990). You'll just waste your money, but that's only my own thought.
damn it, yes you've got my back. actually the multithread programming is complex enough, and it will be a dragon annihilation history if they become more than one device. I really don't want to build a house of GPU, for what? I'd just to know about a simple upgrade. seems I still need to wait for something better, maybe ATI 7 series.
so do you prefer VGA, or CIF maybe?! I'm thinking of 1600P, I don't think so 1080P is something rich, unless back to 90's.
Youll never get a 100% increase, some cards 'scale' better than others, im not too familiar with a 5870 crossfire setup so I cant really comment, but gtx 570's are pretty expensive, and If you could get another 5870 relatively cheap then thats what I would reccommend.
