Just found this vid of a mod It speeds up with HDD activity! http://www.prog-tech.co.uk/pcmod/led-chaser.WMV
lol.... does this look familiar to u ? http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27968&perpage=20&pagenumber=1
lol my mods get everywhere. Actually in that video the circuit is being driven by a function generator, ie im controlling the clock speed manually. When connected to a HDD led header it either goes very slow or fast with the odd medium speed.
Looks a lot like the ones around my intake on the PflumingoServer... I've had this posted but I can't remember when (maybe right after I signed on) (yes they spin with the HD activity too... Not a difficult mod, but kinda cool...
kewl another circular HDD activity meter mebbe we should start a club Its getting harder and harder to do something truly original
If you wanted to be original, if a little mad, you could make up around 4 rings of leds that spin from the outside, then spiral onto the next ring, and so on. This could also be linked to activity.
very nice!! Is there a guide somewhere on how to build it and connect it to your hdd led? thanks! God Bless & kind Regards, Richard
Just a thought - the rainbow LED circuit (Linkie) is a similar set up except it uses the 4029 chip instead of the 4017. For school atm I'm doing a 4017 based version that fades between a red a green and a blue LED. If you replaced the clock input on my circuit with the HDD activity lead you'd get a trio (or more) of LEDs that faded between each other on disk access, and then during low access would pause on a colour. During high access they'd probably go fast enough for the three colours to blend into white.... would probably look very cool, if a little psychadelic lol.
