Hey all, I didn't know where to post this, so I'm going to post this here with a problem I get with these two games. Whenever I try to load GTA4 or Crysis 2, my monitor will go blank and across the screen it'll say "Not optimum mode, please put it in 1920x1080@60Hz". Both of these games and my desktop are running at 1920x1080@60Hz, so I have no idea why it does this with only these games. I've tried Metro 2033, Crysis, Starcraft 2, Bad Company 2, L4D2, MoH, CoD, anything you can really think of, and it's completely fine.

I just upgraded my video card from a 6850 (it died D:) to a 6950, I've tried different drivers, clean driver installs, I've tried reinstalling the games, but it keeps doing this to me >;o, I'm beginning to wonder if only a reformat will work.

    Any suggestions?

I dont know if you have the steam version of gta4 or if this would work if you do, but if you do, you could try this

    1) Go Steam Games List
    2) Right Click Grand Theft Auto IV and select 'Properties'
    3) Select 'Set Launch Options'
    4) Type -width 1920 -height 1080 (or whatever resolution you want)
    5) Start game

    or

    1) Go Steam Games List
    2) Right Click Grand Theft Auto IV and select 'Properties'
    3) Select 'Set Launch Options'
    4) Type -windowed
    5) Start game
    6) Change resolution in the graphics settings
    7) Exit game
    8) Remove the -windowed command
    9) Restart

Can't help you with Crysis 2, sorry.

Does your monitor have an on screen menu that might tell you what resolution and frequency the games are trying to use?

Don't have Steam version of GTA4, and no my monitor doesn't show the refresh rate, but I have it set at 1920x1080@60Hz in my CCC and in games :(

    Just a guess this one

1)Right click on your GTA IV desktop icon
    2)Properties
    2)Shortcut tab
3)In the Target box add -width 1920 -height 1080 or -windowed to the end e.g. C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe -windowed
    4)OK
    5)Start game

    Ahh, GPU scaling worked perfectly fine, thank you! +rep to you. Although it's kind of stupid that all previous drivers work fine but they broke fullscreen for certain people on certain monitors in 11.10 -_-;

Unfortunately that is the usual story with AMD drivers. They add new things while breaking old things for a usually small selection of users.
Glad you have a temp fix, but if you have the time: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5a1e27d27e29b0e3
Filling in the survey does seem to help bring the issues to their attention. Might get fixed in 11.11, but don't count on it.
    Thanks for the rep!
