    Hi all

I was thinking of changing my X-Fi fatality pro soundcard for one from Asus
I currently do not have a price limit but sensible springs to mind.

Is it worth changing my card and if you reckon yes what would you change it for

I mainly Game but also some music happens from time to time..

Thanks if you can help me out with some opinions :thumb:

**** soundcard. Badly designed and not worth the money. Buy an Asus or Auzentech X-Meridian 2G.

Stereo or 5.1 purpose ? I had several Creative cards and always had issue with the drivers, mainly the lack of update. Plus the sound quality isn't worth the price asked for them

Asus Xonar DX gets my vote of confidence. Pricing isn't insane at circa £45, and they're fantastic cards.

My heart goes for the Infrasonic QUARTET (it's distributed by Auzentech) :D, but Stereo only.

Well the reason I went for the X-meridian 2G is that it's 7.1 and unlike the XFI Fatalcrapity Tit I had, it works without any issues and sounds way better.

I had an X-fi Elite Pro until it died, I just switched over to an Asus Xonar Essence ST and my ****ing god the audio is glorious. its been under the bonnet for getting on 2 months now and it still blows my mind when I hear it.

I recently made the move away from an X-Fi to an Asus Xonar DX2 and couldn't be happier.

Only downside being it really highlights a badly compressed/poorly sampled music files through my speakers and headphones (SP2500 and Soundmagic E10s).

Even my lady noticed a difference in quality the first time I fired it up and blasted through some Grand Magus then BF3

Creative product are really disapointing. When I went from an XFI to a cheaper MAudio 2496, it was like night and day ! Sound was opened and clear. I'll never buy crapitive product anymore.

I also have the essence ST, and while there's no doubt it's a lovely card, I must be doing something wrong because I don't have anywhere near the same reaction Gunsmith does :(

I connected the speakers to the left and right bit plugs, and the headphones to the headphone big plug. I don't do audio speak, 6.3mm jacks I think?

6.3mm jack are the "big plug", 3.5mm jack are the traditionnal headphone plug and RCA are the red and white coaxial connectors :)

    Asus Xonar is the king!
Creative sound cards are total trash.

When i upgraded to a Xonar the differences was amazing.. Creative sound blaster was only a little better than onboard

Thanks guys, looks like i am going to get an Asus Xonar, but which one, don't fancy spending a fortune.

Also i guess the Xfi cards don't sell very good second hand?

XFI sells fine cos there are enough muppets out there who just buy what everyone else buys.

    I sold mine no trouble.

I would have paid someone to take it off me though. Reminds me of the time I tried to get rid of a Prince double CD and no one wanted it. In the end I had to put it through someone's letterbox and run.

I felt bad about it afterwards.

This won't go down well with Feathers but why do you want to change the card? If you don't have any issues with it then you may as well save your cash.
Right, that's the sensible bit out the way. Get the Xonar D2X, looks awesome.
