just curious. personally i use 0 drive bays and just 1 hd bay. im just trying to imagine how much nicer and smaller cases could be if manufactures made a case with no drive bay and just 1 hd bay...but if people actually use the extra bays i can see why they continue to make them.
I guess it depends on what your system is being used for. In my server I have 2 Icybox 5 bay hot swap units with 6 x 2TB drives in them in Raid 5 configuration. The Icybox fits in 3 x 5.25" drive bays. Similar to this, but I bought mine years ago and they arent lockable.
Rule 1: You can never have too much porn. Rule 2: Never think rule 1 is using too much HDD space In actual fact the SSD is my OS drive with a few programs. The 500GB contains all the games and other less major program files, videos, music, pictures etc etc. Then the 320GB is the backup of the other 2 drives Edit: Docodine is clearly following these rules very well
One drive bay? Unlikely many cases will do this. That means one drive, and that means having your OS and storage on one huge drive, which is never a good idea. I have 4 drives in mine. One for OS, one for storage, one as a local mirror of all my media, and one as a scratch disk for Premiere Pro and Photoshop,
I have a 256Gb SSD for OS and progs, and 2x 1Tb HDDs in the case, plus 2 NAS boxes for network storage. As for "Rule 1: You can never have too much porn", yes, you can!
Main PC as per sig, currently a bit over 800GB free on the array. I have an external DVD-RW drive that only gets powered up once in a blue moon. edit: only 1.4% of my used space is p0rn
Nawwww, ya can't xD 4 internal, 2 external and another not in use. All of them 1TB or over. Will need another soon. So definitely more than one drive. - One optical drive too. And I don't even have any pr0n xD
have a blu ray / dvdrw combo drive , have 2 HDD`s and 1 SSD in 3 1/2" bays , although 1 of the HDD`s is really a backup in acse my OS drive goes wrong
I 'consolidated' into one 2TB HDD with an SSD strapped to the side of my case, the others I have in lil' portable drive cases, with a seperate CD drive
I don't have any. I have 3 drives, 1x 128GB SSD, 1 x 2.5" 500GB 7200rpm HD (Steam), 1 x 500GB 5400rpm HD (Media) - all sit behind my motherboard.
I am currently using 3 bays in total. 2x standard Cosmos 2 hot swap bays 1x DVD bay My ssd's are not in a bay because I have removed all the hard drive bays from my case. In my media server I will be using allot of drive bays.
PC Four bays - dvd RW, and 3 bays for a Lian Li 4HDD rack and no internal HDD slots used or even installed for that matter... Three HDD - 140GB OS + Applications, 230GB local storage, 74GB scratch. Micro Server (HP) Zero bays used 3 1TB HDD in a parity protected UnRaid backing up my two PC drives and acting as a media server (or will be once I get around to ripping all my CD's)
3 hard drive bays, 1x SSD and 2x Samsung 500GB mechanicals 3 5.25" bays, Plextor DVD-RW, X-Fi front panel and a card reader
I took the HDD cages out of my case to make room for a second radiator and a pump. 5.25 inch bays: one SSD, one HDD, one BluRay drive and fan controller.
