    Budget: Approximately 1200 pounds

Main uses of intended build:gaming and school work

    Parts required:Everything except monitor

Previous build information (list details of parts):New build
    Monitor resolution:Currently Samsung 24" 1920x1080

Storage requirements: 1TB should be ample but would be adding a SSD into the built as a boot drive

    Will you be overclocking: yes
Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Dont require too many but nice to have extras :)
    Extra information about desired system:

So yea basically enough said.Im getting my new built probably in the next 1-2weeks time. It's a build mainly for gaming and my school assignments.

This is the parts i have thought of so far.Feel free to provide some tips :)

    CPU: 3570K
MB: Thinking of either the Asus Asus P8Z77-V PRO ( Z77) or MSI Z77A-GD65 (Z77) or is the V series and the GD55 good enough?
Hard disk: Probably a 1TB one should suffice.Probably getting one from seagate
SSD: Looking at the likes or corsair but it seems many are recommending others.Any reason why?
RAM:probably some Corsair Vengeance ram 8GB is more than enough i am sure
GPU: Looking at either the MSI GTX660TI or the GTX670 version of it.
Case: Kinda expensive but looking towards the Corsair Obsidian 650D
DVD drive : Any would do
PSU: Probably a corsair 650W modular one
Cooling: Either some corsair H80/H100 or the Antec 920 or the Thermaltake Frio
Keyboard: Looking at the Steelseries 6gv2
Mouse : already have one the xai so will only get a new one if i have spare cash

    What do you guys think?

For the psu go for a corsair hx650, also, instead of a steelseries 6gv2 go for a cm storm quickfire rapid, as it has a much better build quality. If you can stretch your budget i'd go for the 670. For the hard disk, i'd recommend the samsung f3, as apperently many seagate drives have a tendency to fail (Don't quote me). For the ssd i'd get the samsung 830 due to its price and speed. Also the silverstone raven rv03 or ft02 would be great case choices. Everything else looks fine, i think i've pretty covered everything.

Looks pretty good. Couple of thoughts

Mobo: Of those two would prefer Asus. ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 may be worth a look.
HDD: Seagate ok, but have heard few issues with reliability/warranty. WD Caviar Black good but more expensive.
SSD: Consensus is Samsung 830, or Crucial M4 best for combination of performance/ reliability.
RAM: OK if using liquid cooler. Lower profile Crucial Ballistic Sport, or perhaps GSkill Ares, if using air cooler.
GPU: More is obviously better if budget allows. 660Ti still highly competant if it doesn't.
Case: Obsidian is good case. Really heavy though, make sure you don't need to move it too often. Personally like the Carbide 500R, but cases are a very personal thing.
OptDr: Any of a dozen, basically
PSU: Don't really need more than 550W, but 600/650 gives you a bit, in hand. Seasonic/Corsair/XFX all Ok. You want to get fully modular, if you can. Not ALL Corsairs are.
Cooling: I quite like liquid cooling. Makes for a "neater" installation. Ideally get a size up from what you think, so fans don't have to run flat out. They're not particularly quiet. If you put radiator in exhaust air stream, don't forget a separate exhaust fan, to maintain case vent, when cooler IS on low load.

    Hi Guys.

    Thanks for the replies.

For the HDD: Is a WD Green good enough?
SSD: Are Corsair's SSD not that reliable or is that still ok?
GPU: Yes if i have the extra cash to spare yes might go for the 670 instead.
MB: Might check out with ASROCK as well then. But it seems more people are in favour of the Asus then MSI
    PSU: Looking at the TX650WM
Cooling: what other coolers do you guys recommend other than those i have mentioned? Is the thermaltake frio any good?I heard they are quite noisy under load.
Case: Might stick to the 650D.Quite keen on that case

See bold, also, I'd always, always buy low profile(normal sized) RAM kits.

    Hey Tangster,

Since you are a fan of the MSI boards. What would you recommend? The GD65(Z77) or the GD55(Z77)?

The 55 range is better price/perf wise. If you have the money for the GD65 I'd move to the Asus/Gigabyte boards.

Gene V or GA-Z77X-UD5H seem to be quite good right now.
Worth checking out reviews of other boards though, as those two are quite pricey for Z77.

i was thinking of going for an ATX board.Prolly something like the V-Pro.

A sabertooth cost almost the same as a V formula so i did rather go that way.

Which gigabyte board are good though?

Been looking around at reviews and all

It seems MSI is kinda out of the picture.Good bang for buck for most reviews but not the best overclocker.

For the money im paying for a sabertooth i rather go for the V Formula.

So it seems it's most probably the V-Pro now?Not too keen on the Gene though unless there is really good reasons to go for mATX.

    What ya guys reckon?

3570K is more limited by it's shoddy TIM than most boards when it comes to overclocking.

hmm...so thermal paste aye?So what board would you recommend Tangster? What board do you personally use?I was thinking on saving a bit on the board so i have bit extra for the GPU.

Was thinking either going GD55 or the Asus V and get the 670 over the 660TI

I mean the TIM intel use under the ivy bridge heatspreaders, not the TIM you put on top. The older models used metal which conducted heat away from the CPU itself much better.

My system is in my sig space.

It would suffice, unless you really like overclocking.

For that sort of money maybe (dare I say it..) wait for Haswell and if you're in need for a system for now, how building a cheaper one?
