I recently done a fresh install of Windows 8 on a seperate partition, but my laptop keeps turning off. Even web browsing can do this where as on windows 7 it used to turn off while playing games. I now have a cooling stand so it never turns off in windows 7 Any help? Thanks.
Hardware issue nothing to do with what version windows is running imo. Open the laptop up and clean the heatsink out sounds like its full of fluff. Download and run this: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html And see what temps are showing as.
I've cleaned it recently. It wasn't a problem in windows 7. It never turned off now I have a zalman notebook cooler. Now it does constantly.
Windows turnoff and auto restart problems are always because of some hardware problem like laptops heating up and now restarts again and again when cooled then work fine.Laptop Maintenance and Cleanup is very important for fine working of laptop.
Could be an ACPI power management driver problem. Uninstall and reinstall this driver and see if that helps.
Your first post says it used to turn off while playing games. Would indicate a issue there before the switch imo.
Nope. Sometimes two different illnesses have the same symptoms. The past switch-offs could be due to overheating (playing games). The current switch-offs could be indicative of another problem. My money is on ACPI power management drivers.
Just a really wild stab in the dark, but is Win8 activated? If it isn't, it'll start to shutdown without warning after an hour of use.
