Just 'half' blew my PSU. I installed a switch on it, thanks to whypick1 and cpemma that replied to this thread - that worked perfectly. Then I changed the clear fans that were in there with Antec 3 blue LED ones, I had one plugged in and I switched the PSU on and there was smoke :| So I unplugged the fan and the PSU worked again, booted the PC up fine, voltages all registered ok in the monitoring software. So I tried 3 other fans, including one of the originals and the PSU switched on fine, but none of the fans I tried spun. I think I probably blew the 'fans' part of the PSU Don't know how or why because the fan still works, and I also had an Antec 3 blue LED fan installed in my previous Q-Tech PSU. Anyway, I'm going to buy another PSU, I can't trust this one anymore.
Um... kinda of odd, shame that really, least it was cheap I remeber when my fan caught fire now that was funny, well sort of, but it still works!
Yes I could very easily do that, and I am going to do that when I get another one, but I can't trust this PSU in my system anymore I'd be too worried all the time that it blows something else
That's probably because the power requirements increase, therefore generating more heat and increasing the speed of the fan
Yeah i thought that but tried the fans off and still the same. I put in a cheap 350w one too and that runs the comp with no sound at all
Don't get Q-tec PSUs!!! Especially the 550watt thing. They say it is 550 watts, however if you look at the label closely, it has one colum saying "peak". This gives the peak amps and so not the real power coming out of the PSU. If you look at the maximum ratings and work out the theoretical wattage, it gives you around 330W . Bad bad Q-tec!
sending mine back soon and getting enermax The cheeky gits, i really dont like them now Just looked on the side of mine and they are made in the nehterlands
I'm using a 550w QTec at the moment, and I'll go with Sc0rian, and admit that it's not exactly quiet, but as I don't overclock (yet) it seems to be OK for my system, for now. May swap it with a spare 350w PSU that I got with my last case and see if there's any improvement in the noise level?? If, or when I eventually overclock, I'll be looking for an Enermax.
If your looking to overclock I'd look for something other than Enermax... they apparently have a pretty poor 5v rail which can cause instability when overclocking. I have an Antec which I'm more than happy woth although I have heard very good things about Hiper PSUs, they are recommended by Coolermaster no less and they're pretty cheap...
q tec's are bad psu's they dont give very good voltages they make horrible noises they are loud and cheap. personally i wouldent put one anywhere near my computer i have a antec true blue 480 watt .. n nice and great voltages
