hi i recently brought a nVidia GeForce 4 MX440 64MB AGP x4 graphics card, put it in my computer which has a Amd athlon 1.4 ghz proccessor, 256mb ram, and a pci mothboard. i turned the computer on and it loaded up as normal, but when i tried to play an mp3 the screen went blank, the song continued to play so the computer hadnt frozen. Has any one got any ideas of what it could be? could it be that the graphics card is faulty?

    cheers, jack.

if games and other stuff work its prob ok. Maybe theres a visualization problem in the mp3 player setup.

Heh the Geforce 4 MX is a horrible card, it is essentially a slightly pumped up Geforce 2MX and doesn't even have Direct X 8 compliance.. eurgh, ;)

I get about 100FPS in Descent 2(quality settings set to max) with my GF4 MX 420.
If only I can get Fear Factor to show FPS so I can benchmark my video card with Fear Factor(it's very smooth, so it's at least 60FPS).

Does this surprise you? Descent 2 was a 1996 game, so it was pretty much before 3D accelerators ;) Except the original Voodoo which was released in 1996...

Try a more up to date game and then see how your MX 420 fairs, ;)

Descent 2 is the only 3D game I have(I also have lots of 2D games).
I do, however, have Fear Factor(a video showing people doing gross/scary things) on my PC, and I wonder how to get the FPS to show(it's very smooth, so the FPS is at least 60).
    I get about 60FPS in 3DMark 2001.
Doesn't Descent 2 use Directx, so if there's a 3D accelerator, it gets used?

I cannot find any mention of DirectX on the game info page, however I did find these specs...

    System Specs:
    System Requirements
    IBM/Tandy & 100% compatibles
    486DX-50 or faster
256 color VGA or SVGA monitor
8MB RAM (16MB if running from Win 95)
    DOS 5.0 or later
30 MB hard drive space required
    2x CD-ROM

    Recommended
    Pentium(tm) processor
    16 MB RAM
stereo 16-bit sound card with General MIDI support
    a quality joystick

It isn't a game that would test any 3D accelerator. In fact I doubt it is being used, it is mostly likely using your CPU entirely to software render the graphics.

Try a real game on your system :)

I will try Fear Factor(not a game, but a 3D video(my friends use it to stress test video cards)) when I have time.
I remember last time, my system ran it very smooth(perhaps I should look closer).
Also, Fear Factor uses virtually zero CPU, so it's all GPU load.

I just finished running Fear Factor on my machine(after a fresh reboot), I got about 68FPS @ 1024x768x32.
My monitor runs at 60FPS so my video card is being right on the edge.
