I just think its a bit of a contradiction to have JJ Abrams directing both star trek and star wars, to me they are big rival franchises. I think Joss Whedon would have been better for Star Wars and think he would have injected a nice piece of uniqueness to it. As I see it, episode 7 is not going to give us any surprises, he is going to play it very safe with the aim of maximizing audiences and just getting them past the satisfaction level to justify another movie after.

Why on earth are the same tax breaks not applied to all the film industries ?

I don't see this as a bad thing, I'd rather have a satisfying and competent franchise and a risky, edgy film that nosedives into failure. I'm kinda hoping for the Solo twins to be in it. Gemma Arterton would make a great Jaina Solo imo.

Let's just all rejoice in the fact that George Lucas won't touch any of these films.

It's good that when Disney were looking at why the originals were so successful part of that was down to them being made here.

Not that it has niche to do with me but the fact the finest technicians are regarded as being here is great for our film industry.

Then why was a special meeting needed with the chancellor of the exchequer earlier in the year where talks of a tax break for the film were discussed.

They were discussing tax breaks for the film industry as a whole not for 1 film.

The level of water falling on the ride will mimic, accurately, British summer time.

Pinewood is only about 15 minutes away from home, so hoping it does come back to there.

Ahhh that's good to know, the article makes it seem like it was just the one film, when it said "tax break for the film were discussed" or am i the only one that interpreted it like that :duh:

It's designed to encourage the film business to the UK, we need to build up a reputation for being able to produce blockbusters here as we cannot reply on traditional manufacturing industries anymore... the UK gets no money at all if it's filmed in NZ or the US like other big scale productions are.

With the Gov providing some tax relief it's going to bring huge amounts of money into the UK as the film is going to be spending huge amounts of money in the UK on the other things needed for production, like studios, catering, transport, logistics, extras, etc. This is money that's going to be paid to UK businesses and in turn wages to people. In this climate the more people with an income the better IMO!

Those people are still going to be paying income tax and anything they buy in the UK will be subject to VAT so it's not like they are not paying any tax at all.
