My daughter is after a new phone for birthday as she hates her LG cookie.

I took her to see the samsung galaxy ace which I thought would be perfect as she already has a samsung tablet but she didn't like the feel of it nor the screen size.

I don't think she is going to get anything with a bigger screen for her budget new.

    Has anyone got any insight?

you looking at a specific network? [assuming at pay/go]

EDIT: In that price bracket you're looking at a Nokia Lumia 520, Sony Xperia J or one of the low-end blackberries... [i have the Galaxy Ace... its pretty naff tbh...]

    Soz should have included that.

Ideally sim free, or pay as you go with tesco's

I got my missus a Samsung galaxy chat which has a qwerty keyboard for 105 quid a few months ago. She loves it.

    We meet again Mr bag.
Sony xperia u doesn't look bad, the lg optimus l5 is over budget, by 20 quid but looks good too.
I haven't used either but the spec looks not bad. Granted not bleeding edge, but not bad.

She likes the Nokia, shame the sim free one is £129.99.

Might have to look into what each of the networks have to offer on pay as you go.

We are very light users so tesco's has always been very good for us.

Nokia are generally the best bet at the more budget end of the market due to WP being a but more friendly to slower hardware than android.

If you dont mind going used, the iphone 4 can go for around £120 on ebay which is still a good phone and I think it will still be supported in ios7.

If you don't mind scouring used, ipohone 4s and Dual core snapdragon scorpion based phones can be had for as little as 70-80 quid.

Pay for an unlock code which is about 5 pounds and you'll have quite the vertiable phone.

If you can cope with a small form factor the Xperia U isn't half bad for the money. For my sins I own one - best screen for the price point as far as I'm aware (it certainly was when I got it last year).

Huawei Ascend Y300. £70 from Carphone Warehouse. £3.75 to unlock from nckserver.

Dual core, Android Jelly Bean, decent enough screen. Only 512MB RAM so not as fast as more expensive Android devices but it'll be much better compared to the LG Cookie.

If you want the Nokia then Carphone Warehouse sell these unlocked I believe. But you'll still need to buy it on a network with a top up.

Just did a quick search on tesco's but can only find contract HTC 8S phones.

Looks like a really nice phone though.
