this is exactly why I hate gaming online.

    a) I need a rating
    b) it wants all my time
    c) I need friends

It's one of the things I hate about Xbox Live, with it's stupid Gamerscore and Reputation etc.

I have muted everybody on a server in the past (on CS), not for any particuarly reason or indeed even in reaction to them actually making use of a mic! So my wish to game without hearing others talking (who are not acting like jerks, just enjoying themselves) will have a negative effect on someones rating under this system?!?

I regularly mute everybody... I'm sure some of those people are perfectly good / nice gamers but does that mean I'm now bringing down their scores?

You have to admire Microsoft marketing, since E3 the Xbone has been in the headlines a lot.

What with changes to the DRM, The headset adapter, Kinetic 2.0 costing as much as the console, Smart Match, Designed to be literally always turned on, Self-publishing, Unlimited Cloud Storage, And now the reputation system.

A more sceptical person than me may think all these changes and announcements are meant to keep the Xbone in the headlines for free advertising ;)

Mate of mine does a youtube channel from games he plays were he gets banned for no reason, he tries to address and records it all, basically it's admin abuse.

This'd give him bad rep for getting banned and kicked right?

This is why I'll never buy a console.

Obviously there is a big market for people who want this and an even bigger market for people who a) won't care and/or b) not notice.

I think it's crappy your reputation gets lowered just because of muting someone, but otherwise I think this reputation idea is good - XB1 is littered with spoiled, bigoted kids. This reputation system would probably help remove a lot of them.

I've never played on XBL, nor have ever owned an xbox, but even PC gets it's share of people who abuse the mic. Such people include those who try having conversations in a language no other player is speaking, or worst case scenario, they're playing their music through the mic as though it's something we WANT to hear, and then they get mad when everyone mutes them.

Has a reputation system ever worked? It'll constantly be abused and exploited, or made pointless by having no actual impact. For the former, see Bit-tech. For the latter, see GFWL.

I admit to having abused report/reputation systems first hand in a variety of games. Each one is just a matter of figuring how it works gaming the system. I'd hate to have a console wide system, particularly if the future consequences had any real impact on your ability to play games.

So to get a really really nice reputation I am supposed to play as long as possible without upsetting anyone. Is there kissing and cuddling involved as well? This is a hand-holding system that will never work. At least not If you want to have fun -__-

seems quite exploitative for most gamers who find cracks and loop holes as they always do

Don't it all depend on what the negatives of having a bad rep are ?, if all it means is you get matched against people of similar rep then who cares.
