I've had my i7 920 & MSI x58 Pro for 4-5 years so decided it was time for an upgrade.. New toys and that... Purchased a new CPU, Motherboard, RAM and HSF.

My new bits arrive next week but i'm wondering, would i benefit from a new case or perhaps a new PSU or would they be relatively pointless? I've no idea what leaps have been made over time in case cooling performance or PSU design or whether i need something greater than 700w.

    I won't be overclocking to aggressively, probably aim for 4.2 - 4.3ghz.

    Build;

    - Intel Core i7-4770K
    - Asus Z87-PRO Z87
    - Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) Vengeance Pro Blue DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Memory
    - Corsair Hydro Series H80
    - AMD 7970 3GB Ghz
    - 240GB Sandisk Extreme SSD
    - 120GB Vertex 2E SSD
    - 2TB Western Digital Black HDD
    - Silverstone FT01
    - OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w

A 700W PSU is already plenty for the build, so don't stress that one - they haven't exactly changed much over time either.

Case cooling also hasn't changed - it's still a case of air in, air out, unless you go for one of the all-in-one liquid coolers (eg: Corsair Hydro series) that are increasingly popular. As you've gone for the H80, the case cooling is almost irrelevant, and the FT01 will be absolutely fine.

You are going Haswell so the PSU may cause one small issue, does it support C6 and C7 power states? If not then you won't get any of the super dooper low power features it offers and need to disable them in the BIOS when you first turn the system off.

It's not a big deal, just bear it in mind.

Power wise, 700W is more than fine for the system so don't worry.

The PSU does support C6 and C7, so no problem there.

The hardware all seems good, if you still have a need to upgrade have you looked at your speakers / sound card / peripherals / another monitor? All decent options if you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

    Well it's all built...

Thank god i had some compressed air, quite a bit of dust to clean out of my PC :).

Getting a CPU idle temp of 30 and full load (Prime95) of 67, this is in a slightly warm room.

Also managed to sell my old i7 920, MSI x58, 6GB DDR3 Dominator and Vertex 2E for £203.

Considering i got all this for £425.74 including delivery, i think i did alright.

    - Intel Core i7-4770K
    - Asus Z87-PRO Z87
    - Corsair 8GB (2 x 4GB) Vengeance Pro Blue DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Memory
    - Corsair Hydro Series H80
