Had terrible issues with my MSI GTX 670PE and had to sell it a few months back. I've haven't really been following the market lately but decided it's time to buy a new GPU. I'm tired of my HD 6870. I see these new R9 cards have come out but don't know much about them. I'm thinking about buying an Asus 280X. I know the 290's are out but don't I want to spend that much money. I read somewhere (maybe on here) that someone said the R9 280X is basically a 7970 GHz edition with a new name, but cheaper. I don't care about getting free games with a 7970. Any thought's on this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121803 Price seems great, made by Asus, and has the best reviews out of all the 280X cards. Asus makes another version for a few bucks more (seen here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121805). The latter seems to have bad reviews and is only 30MHz faster, I could just OC the former myself. Opinions greatly appreciated as always! Looking for some fast replies as these cards seem to sell out fast. Thanks for taking the time to read!
So you recommend it or highly recommend it? And why did you choose this card specifically, if you don't mind me asking. Sent from Bittech Android app
I have the dc2 top version. It was an impulse buy so there wasn't any real thought process behind it. It has proven to be an excellent card so far. Bf4 looks amazing and plays pretty smoothly at 1920*1200. The dc2 cooler really is excellent too. I'm pretty keen to see what mantle looks like support and performance wise. You are right about it being a re-badged 7970. That shouldn't make any difference though, it's still a very capable card and for the performance you get, they are a steal.
Good to hear. I bought it about an hour ago. Cheaper than the 7970 GHz edition and it's newer (which I like). Hope it works better than my last card. I know it's a step up from a 670PE too.
You will not regret it! It is a great card, especially for the money! When it comes to overclocking, I greatly recommend that you use Asus GPU Tweak, as it yields much greater results than msi afterburner. I don't know why but it doesn't seem entirely compatible. Can't wait to see what Mantle has in store for us. It only makes sense that AMD has the advantage in upcoming cross-platform games.
I'm not too happy with MSI in general so I was already planning on using the Asus software. Going to bump it up at least 30MHz to match the more expensive Asus 280x. It was the only thing I saw different between the two cards.
You can get a GTX770 for £240 now, with about £35 worth of free games. Making it if you sell the games £205 for a card that is only about 3-4 frames behind the 280x both stock.
Woops, i mean 280x! sorry, edited 280x is only a few frames faster http://www.techspot.com/review/734-battlefield-4-benchmarks/page3.html even in BF4 where the game is made to run better on AMD cards than nvidia. ARMA3/2 runs better on nvidia, and so on.. depends on the game, but theres not much in it either way I wont a 770 because you get all them games with it to sell which make them about £200 new
That makes more sense Well, BF4 runs slightly better on AMD hardware, but we are still to see the benefits from Mantle. I'm quite excited to see what happens when its released.
Finally settled on some stable clockfrequencies for my 280x. 1170mhz core @1.228v and 6500mhz for the memory. Peaks at 81*c in my case with absolutely no airflow, but with the side off.
