Question guys, I've thrown this together as a quick 500 quid gaming build but have gone a smidge D) over budget. CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme6 ATX LGA1155 Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" SSD & 2 recycled hdd's Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Power Supply: EVGA 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Optical Drive : Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer Wireless Network Adapter: Edimax EW-7612PIn 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 My brain isn't computing where I can save money so i was looking for some help to be honest. Any advise where i can save? I'm not happy with the case really but my friend wants one he can stick lights in and has a window in the side panel. I never go for that so I cant think of any... so yeah advise on that would be nice too. preferably ATX mid. Thanks Pub
mostly from scan though i realise in my haste i may have used a mobo not on there so will have to source from somewhere else or change it.
If you are comparing prices, PCPartPicker is a decent place. For that budget, you may also be better off with an AMD equivalent.
If it's for gaming and your budget actually is £500 you'd be far better off with a 760k and a better graphics card. 90% of games are going to be GPU rather than CPU limited.
Doesn't the new pentium perform better than the 760K? Pub you could more than get away with 450W PSU, and the ram doesn't need to be 2400MHz. 1600/1866 should be enough.
That it does with better upgrade path. Without knowing what your spending on each all we can do is guess. Memory and psu would be 2 reduce points. If your a smidge over budget then that should fix it. If your a couple of hundred over budget as I'd think you are then you need to really look at scaling back the CPU mobo options.
Antec make good cases (airflow) with lights. Like the Antec 900 version x Use this Benchmark list to compare CPUs at stock speeds. No need to get into a intel/amd battle AMD Athlon X4 760K Quad Core 4,581 Intel Pentium G3258 @ 3.20GHz 3,939 $69.99 the stock speed difference is small what it is at OC of course depends on OC ;P
Go for a lesser CPU. I game with a i5 3330 and concentrated on the graphics (Albeit Sli) but I started off with just the one GTX 760 and it was fine for the most part. I recently completed Crysis 3 with all settings maxed out.
I'm only 150 quid over which is fine for me but not my friend. and yeah where this pc is going there are no ports cabled in it's just wireless. I apologise i did forget to show the prices the ones below are according to pc parts picker: PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/VVgrRB CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (£165.78 @ Scan.co.uk) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£24.25 @ Scan.co.uk) Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme6 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory (£68.16 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£51.74 @ Scan.co.uk) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.84 @ Scan.co.uk) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card (£132.79 @ Scan.co.uk) Case: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case (£71.51 @ Scan.co.uk) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£68.78 @ Scan.co.uk) Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer (£11.51 @ Scan.co.uk) Wireless Network Adapter: Edimax EW-7612PIn 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (£11.98 @ Scan.co.uk) Total: £646.34 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available So to get the clear in my head, 450/500W Power Supply and lesser processor and slower RAM are where to head? excuse my ignorance but how noticeable would it be to use slower speed RAM in general gaming i mean? I'll throw something together with the suggestions and see how much cheaper it is. Thanks so far all Pub
I use 1600 and everything seems to run perfectly fine for me! Mind you, I dont have the best of kit in my pc..
I'd say a 500W PSU, just to be safe (make sure it has 2x PCIe cables). That said, I only run a 450w. Slower RAM will not make ONE SINGLE SHRED of difference. 1600mhz is fine. Its your CPU choice that is really throwing you over budget though - a 760k or G3258 would save you over £100 straight away.
dammit i have also realised that the mobo hasn't got a price by it so i haven't factored that in either... im umming and arr'ing about the motherboard now. There's a cheap £40 gigabyte one that'll do the job but my brain wants me to use a slightly more expencive one that will make upgrading later easier....
Id say go for the OC Pentium and a cheaper-end 1150 Z97 board.. Better options for upgrading and can be done for the same price as that i5!
Meh, I had a go (been a while so it was quite fun imagining spending someone elses money) although I know practically nothing about AMD so you may want to change motherboard or whatever and check it all over for compatibility. I'm not really qualified to do one of these - I was just attempting to squeeze in a 280X! PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor (£57.31 @ Scan.co.uk) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£24.25 @ Scan.co.uk) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard (£44.53 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (£59.42 @ CCL Computers) Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (£54.04 @ Ebuyer) Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280X 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card (£204.99 @ Amazon UK) Case: Aerocool DS Cube Black Edition Silent Cube MicroATX Mini Tower Case (£56.10 @ CCL Computers) Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply (£31.43 @ Aria PC) Total: £532.07 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available I'd almost even recommend an ITX board if he will stay with a single GPU as they mostly have built in WIFI and bigger boards are somewhat pointless to most people. If so, something like a Bitfenix Prodigy would be good (even with the MATX motherboard in this build) as he can by a side window for it later if he insists on adding some lights.
It's funny, I've never looked at the MicroATX cases but that doesn't look like a bad little cube. AMD i haven't followed in eight or so years now so I'm out of the loop i think it's time i catch up by the look of it. I'll have avoid Radion cards though i have never had one that didn't give me trouble in the long run. But everything that has been suggested has made sense so far, once again thanks all. I'll have a play and discuss a smaller case with my friend.
