So I'm finally ordering my Gaming build in the next couple of weeks for my birthday! The only thing I've not nailed down is my GPU: 1. MSI GTX760 4Gb £200 2. ASUS GTX770 2Gb £230 Monitor res 1680x1050, I'm guessing at this resolution the extra GDDR5 isn't going to make a difference? My current rig is looking like this at the moment if you have any comments: CPU: i5 4390k £170 Mobo: Gigabyte Z97M £70 RAM: 8Gb Kingston HyperX - 10-10-10-28 £65.99 PSU: EVGA Supernova NEX 650W (Modular) £60 GPU: ASUS GTX770 2Gb £230 SSD: Samsung 250Gb 840 EVO £100 Case: M-ATX Corsair 350D (Already have this) Am I skimping a bit on the Mobo, or reckon she'll be ok for me? I could fork out another £40 for an Asus Z97M Plus Intend to cater my build performance for Gaming (MMOs, RPG). I'll be using air-cooling to start off with but will slowly turn it into a fully cooled custom water loop. Budget: ~£700-740 on main components not already bought Main uses of intended build: Gaming (MMOs RPG) Parts required: See above, have a Monitor and Case Previous build information: Nothing salvagable really, its 6 years old Monitor resolution: 1680x1050 Storage requirements: Only need 250Gb Will you be overclocking: yes Any motherboard requirements: M-Atx (dark theme) Extra information about desired system: Will be WCed later next year Laing 12v DDC pump and up to 5 fans eventually, I think my selected PSU gives me 100-150W head room for OCing Oh and getting all the parts from scan.co.uk! They turn out cheaper cause of free postage
All looks good to me. As for GPU, I wouldn't spend £200 on a 760 when you can get a 770 for £218 from Scan. You will then have the option to upgrade to a full HD monitor if you want to at a later date - the 770 will handle anything you throw at it.
^ Not that the 760 couldn't handle 1080P as well. But 770 will give you more leg room for future proofing and more eye candy.
Sweet, thanks guys, been saying i'd get this machine for about 2 years, finally getting it! Think i will actually go for the ASUS mobo, I know its an extra £40 but looks more pretty, with a few extra minor features...
what's your previous build? if there really is anything of worth in there at all it's worth putting on marketplace, just in case.
thanks ha ok just for fun here is my old build, built in in Oct 2009: AMD x4 9550 2.2 GHz Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 AMD 790X (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard OCZ stealth 600w power supply (basically dead now) SATA II 500 GB HDD DDR2 4Gb Ram OCZ 400 MHz ATI radeon HD 4850 512 Mb I intend to keep the cpu as a trophy of sorts... My first build. The rest is junk.
I used to run a GTX670 @1680x1050, and overclocked it allowed me to play everything smoothly at full detail, even games like tomb raider and Metro: last light with Supersample AA enabled. Might be worth checking to see how overclockable the Vram is, this will make the biggest difference in performance. if it's Samsung or Hynix it should be great. Elpida Ram on the other hand doesn't seem to overclock so well. More than 2GB of Vram will come in handy in a few games like Watchdogs and Wolfenstien.
