I am looking to a build a machine for general use, some gaming and photo editing. Possibly some CAD in the future. We have around £600-800 for the right machine must include a screen and peripherals and keep costs as low as possible without compromising on quality components and speed/life of the machine. Below is a quick parts list, I want to drive down the price a little, are there any better components at less money? SSD is for the OS as this should give a speed boost??? This list is totally up for swapping and changing nothing in stone. Any recommendations on a 22" ish screen at sensible money? Very much interested in thoughts, ideas and new lists? Ive used an Edimax wireless adapter for years with no issues, i don't game online so i dont know what that would be like, but i always max out my connections download speed, you can pick one up on amazon for under £14, that would save you £12. You could probably find a cheaper motherboard and knock £20 off, do you plan on overclocking?
What about the Gigabyte GX-Z79P-D3 motherboard at Scan - its best part of £30 less, though loses you the option of adding a second GPU later on. I'd also say that you don't need a 750W PSU, 500W should be enough for a single GPU system, dropping to the semi-modular 500W version would save you another £10-12.
Excellent, Power supply will go smaller Motherboard want to keep some upgradeability. But is this a good setup? Anywhere else to drive down cost?
Cooler Master G550M is better (better performance, longer warranty) than the CX500M (£47 @ CCL, Scan or Dabs): http://skinflint.co.uk/cooler-master-g550m-550w-atx-2-31-rs-550-amaa-b1-a1010360.html Review: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/CoolerMaster/G550M/
