    Hi peeps

Well im making a wind tunnel for my Radiator
    here's the pic
    [IMG]
    Note its not finnished :D

Anyway ive been thinking of ways of lighting it up, and the more i think of it the more im drawn towards making it look like some kind of power core! blue, throbbing you know the kind off things you see in sci-films.

Any 1 else got some ideas?

Five or six rounded CCFLs placed along the tube and then light them up in a sequence. :) Should resemble the reactor cores used in ships in Star Trek series. :)

You could use two layers of that plastic, you then wrap EL Wire around, in-between the layers.

You can then use a set of EL Wire inverters to create a moving effect, OR use Macroman's Throbbing circuit.

you can bend ccfl's if your gentil i remember seing a guide somewhere a while ago. you could pulse thoses and it would look cool or you might be able to use some scrounged of the ccfl fans. do you use a resavore?
you could build one arround the fan tube leaving it in the senter and have the watter sloshing around. it'd look cool spechely if you use uv dye.
good luck i'm dieing to see how it turns out.

Why not just buy round CCFL's? like on 80mm lighted fans

Remember, if you're going to bend a straight CCFL into a round shape you need at least a 38 cm straight one! (2*pi*R)

OVEN!!!bad idea if u ask me i bent a fet. you can use a candle but it takes fot tver. i used a propaain torch and some gloves not 2 mentrion a face shield. any way you put the torch on low and gently spin the glass slowly you might want 2 look at a chem book cuz the way u bend lab glass is verry similar anyway you will notice the flaim change color when it gets real hot so u kneed 2 back offf just remember to keep thingas even and sklow and it will start to droop a lil when its ready any way what r u gona bendf it round?
    good luck

Captain Zap, could you try a little harder please to put together a coherent post? I think you have a lot of good ideas and I think the message is getting lost in the media because your posts are so mangled.

Linear, is this what you were looking for?

No oven!!! It is a bad idea if you ask me (I have bent a few CCFL tubes before ). You could use a candle or a small flame but it will take forever. I ended up using a propaine torch and some gloves, and also a face shield. Either way, you need to use some even heat, hotter than a candle (a lighter works for me).
Put the torch on low and gently spin the glass slowly. You will notice the flame changes color when it gets real hot, so if it gets too hot just back off. It would help to look at a chemistry book because the method for bending lab glass is very similar. Remember to keep things even and slow and it will start to droop a little (much like bending acrylic) when its ready to bend. BTW, What were you planning on bending the tube around?

    Good luck
