Once again it is the time to reveal another project on which we were working in our workshop.... This time we will combine 2 things into one housing. Our normal setup for 3d Printing is powered by a PC which stands beside our 3d Printer... Since the time we build our second Printer (already a big one) we wanted to go bigger. So we thought lets build the next Printer and combine the PC Hardware into the same enclosure. The Printer itself will be a huge Corexy based Printer with max. 40*40*80 cm Printing size. The PC Hardware will get a seperate Chamber...so that it won´t be affected from the heated bed. We will built a custom watercooling loop for it and a lot of other features are also planned. But let´s start with a few pictures: The first one is a quick sketch we made...just to make sure we´re talking about the same things....that makes the communication a lot easier...... The first thing we made.....we printed a lot of connectors for the profiles which we will use to build our base frame..... After printing all the connectors and parts which are needed to build the base frame (and the printer itself) we put all the things together so that we could see where we´re going to make changes.... You can see that we already put a mainbase in place ...just to check if it would fit there.....but you can get an imagination where we plan to attach the hardware. After that we also started to cut out the first parts for the Housing.....

No, we´re not planning them.... but they happen ...no just kidding...up to now...our longest print was about 8h - but we´re hoping that this machine can run much faster than the last build and more volume is always a good thing.... And Nooo, it´s not Cheeseputer....it´s cheeseps1 Time for an update: We continued the work on this build with the Top Part of the Housing, like one of the sides it will get a large window...so that we can see the printing process, beside that we plan to integrate a small compartment were we can store the filament rolls for the Printer.... After that we prepared the other 2 sidepanels and started to cut them out..... from the backside of the printer it will look something like that.... and from the front/side it looks like that....
time for the next update: Last time we prepared the parts for the outer shell....so we continued our work with the attachements for the base frame. Up to now, we only build the printer chamber, so we had to add 2 parts for all the electronics and hardware..... In the lower part we will mainly mount the PSUs, Radiators and stuff we don´t want to show....in the Upper Part we will add a multi spool holder for the 3d printing filament so that it is good reachable for changing spools or maybe later, for a multicolor extruder.... After that we started to cut out the next "holes" in our front and backpanel.... With that done, we mounted everything again.....just to see in which direction we´re going to mount the hardware....take a few measurements etc.... ...beside that we also choose the position for a small status display......marked the exact spot on all parts and started to make the needed cutouts....
sure....thats a good combination...enough power to build a 3d model and also the capability of creating the object....what you want more.... (sure i know a few things: pizza/hamburger....etc.....but thats a sound of the future....) In the last days the Mainboard for this project arrives, so we wanted to use the chance to send a big Thank You!!!! to Asus for their help & support! ok, now we can continue..... on the last update we already showed you the preparations for the small extra display....so we continued the work....and mounted it for the first time....that way we also could see in which way we´re going to cover the PCB from the inside..... beside that we also prepared the next "small" piece for the printing chamber....just a small piece which should prevent the door (which will be added later) swing inside the printing chamber.... As next we make a few modifications on the mainboardtray so that it fits inside our plans..... then we prepared a few covers for the Motors of the X/Y Axis so that they aren´t visible from the outside.....
ok, let´s continue this.... Atfer our last update we continued the work on the midplate, a few modifications had to be done, so that we could route all those cables from the PSU to the Mainboard...nearly invisible... here you can see, how we are going to mount the 2 PSU´s inside the lower part of the chassis..... the cover for the small extra display is also nearly finished..... After finding the right positions for our PSUs we started with a cutout on the sidepanel.....so that the PSUs gets enough fresh air.... Both Radiators were also in their final position, so that we can continue the planning for the rigid tubing....cable ways and things like that.... then we prepared an opening in the midwall between the hardware and the printer part. It will be needed to route all cables from one part to the other...so that we can mount the printer electronics beside the PC Hardware....
Time for an update!....in the last days we prepared a small piece of plexi which we will mount under the Printer Electronics. Later we will add some LEDs in there so that it will get a nice glowing edge ..... After that we prepared another cutout in the midplate, where we want to add another Display/Fan Controller...... Then we started to prepare a housing for the complete Printer electronics, it will hide all those cables and plugs which will be routed to that point....and beside that we will add a 120mm Fan to keep everything cool...... Beside that we also prepared the first parts of the Fan Controller Housing.... We also found a place where we want to mount the HDD.... And we prepared a piece of Aluminium which we will use on our midplate.... And a first part of our Res is also prepared.....more will follow....
Sooo, here we go again.... in the last weeks we couldn´t make much progress on this project, because we were busy with another Project for a contest, which had to be finished within a short time..... But now after that contest is finished....we switched onto this project again.... And in the time between, we got some really good news! The Hardware for this build is complete / the last missing parts are on their way to us!! In the last days we already received the first packages with the CPU and the RAM. So we want to send out 2 really BIG THANK YOU to Intel and KLEVV, for their awesome support!!! Intel already send us a Core I7 5960x which will be powered by 32 GB of KLEVVs finest DDR4!!! The RAM already arrives a few days ago....so we had a bit of time to make some pics.... The CPU arrives only 2 hours ago...so there wasn´t much time to make a lot of pics.....they will follow.... But like i said we also made some progress on the project. First we finished the work on the Reservoir....
Sweet work. -You built a memory fort! Which brings up a question: Isn't the hardware a little overkill for a printer?
is was thinking the same as chepskate but i think the little blue (arduino?) thingy i for controlling the printer and the computer for working on models beside the printer? Anyway overkill is quite cool
hehehe i love that....memory fort overkill ? maybe and up to now.....you didn´t see the graphic cards.....(which should arrive in the next days) yeah....thats correct The Arduino (Mega + Ramps Shield) will manage the Hardware of the Printer.....the rest of the overkill is only for fun oh sorry i wanted to say....it will only be used to render 3d Modells for the printer and i promise we won´t use it for gaming
Ok, let´s continue this.... in the last days we continued the work on that metal strip which we had prepared earlier.... then we finalized the mounting of the reservoir, so that we could start the bending process for the first rigid tubes.... We also added an extra socket for an additional power cord which we will use to connect the heated bed of the Printer to 220V.... We also prepared a cover for the radiators.... and finally we started to add paint to the first parts....
Even for rendering 3D models, it's overkill. I can make models, render them and print all from an Atom core Netbook with around 1-2 gigs of ram. My custom built 3D printer has 17"x17"x10" print space and it's complete over kill. What are you guys going to use for a heated bed? It's a cool idea and I hope you never have to move it. Mines a pain to move due to it's size. Keep up the good work guys.
