    hey y'all

first, i'm not very good with electronics, so i'll explain as best i can

what do i need to go inbetween the audio header on my mobo, and the output jack on my custom front panel, to be able to change the volume level (some kind of variable resistor/spinny knob thing - but which one?)

i'm in the uk, so Maplin will be my place of purchase...

    cheers

What you need is a logarithmic taper potentiometer (aka "audio taper"). Simply put, resistance increases logarithmically as volume is percieved by the ear logarithmically as well.

I can't help you on the right resistance to go for, but hopefully someone else does.

You can calculate the value from card output impedance and amp input impedance, but 47k seems to usually work ;)

You'll want a stereo version (dual gang)
