    Hi,
I have been asked to build a gaming rig, budget is £700 (Could extend if worth while to about £900)

Mainly for gaming but they also maybe want to stream their gaming content in the future.

Copy and Paste this into a new post and fill it out

    Budget: £700-£900
Main uses of intended build: Gaming
Parts required: Everything apart from software
Previous build information (list details of parts):
Monitor resolution: will buy a 24inch monitor IPS 1ms i think. (Seperate budget of £150 for this)
Storage requirements: SSD and at least 1tb
    Will you be overclocking: no
Any motherboard requirements: Lots of USB, sound
Extra information about desired system: WIFI

prefer a quiet machine if possible. :)
    Thanks

Are you referring to a CPU for £350?

If that is the case then that is too expensive just for a cpu for this rig.

Eh? If Ryzen 7 1700 is £329 how can Ryzen 5 possibly be £350?

No I didn't mean the 6 core Ryzen 5 any way. I mean the quad core with SMT and unlocked. It will cost less than the CPU you are looking at and will be faster.

The next set of Ryzen CPUs are the ones to take on the desktop I7 range, I5 range and I3 range. All will be much cheaper than their rivals leaving you more cash to put elsewhere.

Ok, so looks like he can't wait until the new processors to rival Intel's. As he wants the pc asap.
So is this a quality build for high end gaming and also in future stream gaming using a capture card. I believe you need a fast system for this?
What would you change if anything?

id switch out the 250GB SSD for a 500GB and drop the 1TB HDD if he could manage it

maybe add storage for documents later.

250GB SSD fills up in about 2 minutes as a gamer

True that. What about power supply? never used that brand, always used corsair before.

Also is this ssd recommend? Crucial MX300 525 GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive with 9.5 mm Adapter - Grey/Blue https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01IAGSD68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Dcy2ybPHF1V8B

    Amazon reviews look encouraging.
    Thanks

Wait 2 weeks for the 11th to see results of Ryzen 5.

Otherwise I'd drop the MB down to B250 around 100 quid, because no need for OC on a non-K chip, and look at a better PSU than entry-level 80Plus Bronze model. Strix B250F is 30 quid cheaper, or Prime boards are around 80 quid. Or maybe cheaper Z170/B150s since you've got a 6xxx CPU there

850 EVO would be the preferred choice of SSD.

Agreed on the cheaper motherboard. A 500W PSU would be more than enough too.

Personally I would go for a cheaper case if possible. I don't see the point in spending so much that doesn't offer performance benefit. Cable management and aesthetics can be useful and nice to have but if on a budget, the case is usually one of the first things I sacrifice.

Also i5 7500 is only £3 more expensive from the same retailer according to PCpartpicker. Speed and IPC increase probably worth it.

Based on the monitor size and budget it's likely going to be 1080p. An RX480 may be worth considering.

    Is the DVD drive necessary?

The reason I chose this case was because it's meant to be quiet? Dvd drive is cheap so it's ok, better to have than not for £20.
    He wants a 1060 gpu

    agreed on the samsung drive

agreed on the mobo dropping to the B chipset

agreed on the PSU as well 500W is plenty for a RX480 or 1060

If funds are tight then I have seen 6400 and 6500 go for around the £100 mark on eBay, they do not hold value well at all yet are still very competent gaming CPUs.

    Hi,

Thanks for all your help. I have managed to compile the build with your help.
I believe they will be happy with this machine.

They are needing it for Gaming like overwatch and COD. Also he would like to stream via twitch or something.

Please see the final build and let me know what you think.
I have alerted him that it will be the £1000 mark and he was ok with that, LOL.

    Thank again

Man. Just shows how bad things are. A bag of sand for a rig with a locked CPU and a low end GPU. I remember when a grand got you a K series I5 and a 970.

Thanks for this, I will consider this.
    You also forgot a case.

Looking at my build compared to yours, its not far off regarding performance but i believe your build is aimed more at people who overclock their hardware.

The build i prepared (with the help of others in the forum) is for a user that doesn't overclock and just wants everything to work. Also the user is deadset on a 1060 gpu.

Hence why I also didn't add a cpu cooler, as far as my understanding you only need that if you overclock? (Correct me if I am wrong though.)

    Thanks
