that case is going to be a pain to clean once you get it up and running. hope you have a clean (low dust/hair) room to put it in. nice work though.

This case is wwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too nice to let it sit on a desk all day.

G-gnome, do you intend to do with this work of art when it is finished? You can certainly get some press coverage on it, mags, etc...
Maybe find some way of offsetting the costs of the project by entering mod contests and traveling around with that thing for display at events. For a project with the whole modding community following it, you could appeal to companies like ATI or whatever to supply you with freebees :naughty: in exchange for using them in the computer.

Just a thought. I know how much money can go into a computer these days... :sigh:

i would jsut look in a yellow pages or directory for acrylic/plastic places and see if any places have plexi, give them a call i think specifically if you want that color it would be perspex that you would ask for actually that is the material that is availible in that color, just call around.

    Announcement

Okay, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I'd have an update out around now.

I'm not able to update just yet and I apologise to everyone following the project. :( The reasons are varied:
    • I have sent off a bunch of stuff to be chromed - It's out of my hands and work can't continue on certain parts until the chroming is back.
    • Something may be coming up, which requires me to finish the case asap. Thus I have been forced to concentrate on modding and not writing the log. I have still been taking pics but haven't yet managed to put many words down (and you know I don't like to post anything other than a proper, in-depth log).
    • I am back at work now and it's pretty busy so my free time has been cut down a lot, slowing my work on the project.
    • I have lots of nearly-finished parts and none fully complete as yet. I mentioned early in the project how I prefer to post finished mods in the log so I'll have to wait until these parts are done. I am concentrating on my attention to detail and fighting the urge to cut corners in order to finish quicker. I know you'll appreciate the wait when you see some of the things finished. :cooldude:
I am entering the final phase of the case. It's a bit fiddly and I have had to make a lot of pieces from scratch and do some hefty modding and fitting. As the case fills up it gets tighter and tighter to work in there so takes longer. I have to say it's looking pretty cool and I can't wait to show you! :baby:

So there you have it. Delayed update (I can't speculate on when it will occur) and my sincere apologies. When I post the update I'll amend the title of the project so keep an eye out. I am striving not to drop my standards and some of the stuff you'll see later includes some of my favourite mods in this project! :eeek:

I hope you'll be patient. You wouldn't want me to rush things now, would you? ;)

On a different note: I have to say a big thanks and welcome to the many people who have taken the time out to put in some nice words about the project - Thanks!

I do also appreciate the members (e.g. DETN8R, at_b, etc) who have really studied and read every part of the logs taking the time out to provide answers to those who may not have seen every post. Saves me precious time and stops me turning into a big nasty gnome. Thankee.

Oh and vcdman - I can't remember the exact dimensions of the VFD project box. Just measure your VFD and look at my pics, u should be able to work it out. Its around 120x65mm outside dimensions from memory. Not sure the depth but RS only sell the one box in that size

G-gnome, will wait, it's worth it.

How thick are the aquarium hoses used on the cables?

Guess: 5mm outher, 3mm inner diameter??
