I'm a noob and I would like to know the steps on how to paint a case I would like to know how to do the Chameleon Paint. I was thinkin of midnight blue, black and purple. I was gonna do a flat black in the inside to absorb the uv lights. Please Help.
Thanx!! Hey I'm originally from Roanoke VA not to far from you. I live in DC now though but i go home often.
Welcome to the threads…The paint scheme you refer to is called Flip-Flop and was designed for objects with round surfaces like…cars. It’s not really made for flat surfaced computer panels. While you can still get the flip-flop effect off the panel, it requires you to walk around the case until you find a light source to reflect off of. Not really something I would want to do. I guess you could hang a lot of pin spot lights around the case to highlight the paint job.
Thanx dude! I think im gonna go with the basic Midnight blue then . Do you know what tools I will need to do all the stuff just for painting.
Paint I'm gonna use regular Spray Paint. I have decieded not to do the chameleon paintjust gonna focus on 1paint for now since it is my first modding job. For all the Star Wars Geeks: Well my theme is gonna be Jedi with the Rebel alliance as the windows and the Jedi knight as the pic. The case is a simple generic case. im gonna paint the outside with midnight blue. inside is gonna be flat black w/ uv active stars (very small stars) top window will be oval shaped with a fan in the middle.

What I meant was, are you going to use lacquer or enamel? I read Linear’s guide to painting and it’s pretty good. I don’t really approve of spray bomb painting but I can understand the cost value of using it and if you work at it you can get almost the same results as using a gun. You don’t usually clear coat pastels…that’s mainly for reserved for metallic. But a clear coat will give you the wet look if that the finish you want to achieve. Let me ask you two questions…Do you plan on doing a lot of painting and do you have access to a compressor?
Hmmm... Well this is my first mod job and also my first paint job. I wanna do something simple do i want it to look good. My Father-in-law is gonna buy a dremel. and he will also help me. I just gonna do a simple midnight blue but i want it to shine.
Then start off learning to use a spray bomb and you can either use enamel or lacquer as a base for your color coat and the use a polyurethane for the clear coat. My strongest recommendation is to spend a few bucks and practice the technique that Linear describes in his tutorial on an old case. The extra time you spend up front will pay off in the back end. Let me know when you decide on the type of paint your going to use and I will give you some help if you want it. There is a difference in the way you apply the two basic types of paint.
Im painting.... Prob outside or maybe in a garage the color is gonna be sapphire blue or midnight blue. A cheap case i got a microcenter.com for $30 here is the linkfor the case I got. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0161633 im gonna put a fan on the top and on the side
