How much you enjoy Phoenix Point can be roughly determined with how you received XCOM:
Did you grow up on UFO:Enemy Unknown and find the Firixas XCOM was some weird UFO-themed version of an unrelated, much simpler, game that used dramatic cut-scenes to mask that the underlying game changed very little through the actual progression, and of the near total lack of a strategic layer? You'll very much enjoy Phoenix Point.
If your first experience was with XCOM and your impression of the series is an action-oriented sequence of missions where some targets pop up for your guys to shoot (following a percentage value for you to yell at the inaccuracy thereof) then Phoenix Point will probably seem like a whole bunch of unnecessary stuff shoved in your way to shooting the baddies.
