    Hi all,

what are peoples thoughts on Dual 4k vs Super ultrawide monitors?

I'm looking for that 1 or 2 cable solution when docking my work or personal laptop + some gaming

    Thanks!

dual 4k is a lot of pixels to run gaming, most super ultrawide have less pixels than a single 4k screen and would be a better for keeping resources reasonable as even 4k requires decent GPU firepower.

I have multiple screens in one room and it is fine for segmentation of some productivity/work tasks, gaming is better on one big screen though IMO and my cad work is preferable on one big screen as I can have a nice big canvas.

So in short it depends what you want to do and what your main usage is going to be, there's no right or wrong.

A 5120x1440 49" is "only" 7.37 million pixels as opposed to a single 4K screen which is 8.29 million pixels and considering how comically slow GPUs still are 4K just isn't all that advisable for gaming.

And then there is the other issue...

The overwhelming majority of 4K monitors is 60hz, if you wanted say 2x 4K 144hz monitors you'd be looking at some pretty serious cost.

So I'd say it is an open an shut case in favour of the Samsung LC49G95TSSUXEN.

So my primary use case is productivity and developement/coding

Gaming is a few hours in the evening thing so it's not got to be amazing

Also if your 'work' or 'personal' laptops is, or is likely to be one of the new Apple Silicon-based MacBooks, bear in mind they only support 1 external monitor.

Fortunately not, the work laptop is one of the previous gen and the personal laptop is an xps

A big 4k when looking a code for me at least is preferable as I rarely want pages of code to go wide, I want to go deep to see more lines so my preference would probably be one big 4k for the 2160 and general gaming/media compatibility, 1440 lines is limiting, my wide 3840x1600 is better than 1440 but not by a lot, I still prefer my 4k screen but I am no developer I just do hacky automation stuff to accelerate work flows, never had to stare at pages of code for long, not sure if your developer environemnt lends itself better to wider displays?

    What do you run now?

Still, it never hurts to check what the laptop is capable of driving.

Indeed as it is likely running off of an Intel UHD graphics chip

Surely if you're coding a 16:10 screen in portrait would be far better?

So I use to run one in portrait mode but I didn't use it as much as I would have expected to, Maybe it's just me though...

RE graphics all the laptops I use have dedicated GPUs which can push the 4k content for productivity work

I use a laptop with a 144hz 1080p IPS panel. I then have a 43" 4k dell P4317Q as the main display and then a 24" dell 4k P2415Q on portrait to the right of that.

I then have another pc hooked up to the Samsung 49" 5120x1440 "oddesy" high refresh rate screen attached to my pc.

I game on both solutions depending on what I fancy.

For what you use, I'd do the dual screen 4k as they may h each other in physical dims perfectly.
