https://www.theguardian.com/world/l...08d64fa95e8bdf#block-6227aaa98f08d64fa95e8bdf Poland has changed it's mind on the old MIGs. I imagine this might yet be linked to a sweet deal on some low milage F15s the DoD found they could spare. But all good news.
https://www.gov.pl/web/diplomacy/st...ry-of-state-on-providing-airplanes-to-ukraine Poland is US all their Mig-29's, it expects gift of used jets from US in exchange (probably F-16's?). US will then gift the Mig-29's to Ukraine.
Higher fuel prices and energy costs and increased military spending, we are in for an interesting year. Sanctions. US imports around 70% of all its fertilizer from Russia, If farmers are denied fertilizer we're eventually going to see food shortages, if this drags on.
Ukraine and Russia account for a large %age of global wheat production. ...and it's not just food, the region is responsible for large %ages of global supply of materials crucial to the production of semiconductors and electronics, like neon and palladium. So we've missed the boat for 'if it drags on'.
It'd be nice if they could slip a squadron of the devil's cross in under the table, that'd give them something to think about. Armoured column, what armoured column?
The Ukranian mud seems to be doing a good enough job of that without the help. But just think of the mess an A10 or 3 could make of it. Not sure there would be anything left for the tractors.
The wheat production completely slipped my mind. I didn't know Russia was a supplier of those crucial materials.
Yeah it's primarily neon from Ukraine I think. Besides the wheat production they make a shed load of fertilizer which will affect alot of people (I mean not just food prices but some peoples ability to actually eat).
Poland said they'd gift their MiG29s to the US at their Ramstein airbase in Germany. The idea would be then that the US gift these planes to Ukraine. The US says this is not tenable. Basically the US wanted Poland to hand over the planes directly, essentially provoking Russia. Poland is not putting up with that bs.
From the reports I read it also sounded like the US would have to commit to selling some of its inventory to Poland as replacements, which is a bit of a difficult point to argue at short notice... I can see both sides, and both are a bit shitty.
It appears that the Government wants to perform more thorough checks on the Ukranian women, children and elderly coming here, who have family in the UK, than they do on any oligarchs that have dumped money into the Tory party.
