So I thought, why not also post my entry for the Thermaltake RAM MOD Invitational here. Cause I messed up the date for the deadline, I only had 9 days to complete the entire thing, including 3d modelling and printing. Was a little stressfull at the end haha. Concept: I wanted to build a new "package" for the memory, in my typical working style. So, I search for nice art work of movies that I like. I got stuck on Mortal Engines, specially on the concept art by Ian McQue. I found a really nice city, that would perfectly fit my purpose. As the design was locked, I was thinking about putting the memory right in the middle of the ring, covered by the horizontal construction. I started by blocking out the shape and proportions. After I was happy with the generel look, I added all the details.
Yes, I basically started on the second day of modelling already with printing of the parts that were already done in 3D. Might was a little worry if everything would fit at the end.
To save time, all the parts that were done in 3D were already printed. To print faster and cause of my limited print volume, some parts were split and printed in multiple pieces. ALso some detailes will be attached after painting. That makes the paintjob in some areas a little easier. Before gluing, I nade a test fit of all the parts.
Currently I am for filament I am using a Prusa MK3S and a Sindoh 3DWOX 1 For resin a Elegoo Mars 2 Pro and a Sindoh A1+ Looking into another, larger, resin printer and a bigger filament one at the moment. Havnt decided what model exactly.
Although, all parts are resin printed, I still gave them a slight sanding. Specially in the areas that were supported a little smoothening was needed. Then the main pieces were glued together. Next, I built all the small parts and details. They will hold in place later just by press fitting them. I might install some magnets just to be save. Besides the ring, the mid section was the second main structure. Here the RAM will be placed at the end. Just need to attach some more details.
Those Elgoos look great, I'm always worried about the glass breating, as I've heard horror stories! I have a Ultimaker S5 pro at work and I want to get a Formlabs Fuse next. That build looks fantastic though! Such a simple but really effective design!
Dont know about the S5, for me it seems way overpriced for what it delivers. Specially now, that there are countless alternatives on the market. If I had the 40k, I would definitly eying a Fuse 1 haha. Now the last update before the final images. The section in the middle was dabbed in blue acrylics. That way, I already got some texture which is benificial for the weathering later. The ring got a dark red color as a nice contrast. Then, everything got a little weathering. All the parts in the image will just be stuck together and not glued. This makes it very easy to make changes later or disessamble everything if needed.
