I've always hated the power switch on my Inwin Q500 case and now the power led has stopped working. I was thinking of putting one of those rocker switches with the led in the switch on my case.

So basically I'm looking for help finding a rocker switch that is good looking, is a momentary (sp?) switch, and has the led inside the switch but is not electrically connected to it.

Any other power switch ideas are welcome too.

    thanks

yeah... i've never had a good time talking to the people at radioshack when looking for a part. Maybe I should try a radioshack outside the ghetto's of springfield. I'll try after work though.

No, Radio S*ack is just not a good idea. You've got questions, they've got vacant stares.

Have a look around some of the better surplus electronics suppliers first, then check your auto parts stores locally (everything's 12V so it usually works with very little modification), and use the full-line electronics suppliers as a last resort.

Asking questions to radio shack is so useless, you might as well go to compusa.

thanks linear... I'll check through those.

yeah i remember i went into radioshack looking for thermal grease (it was an emergency). I tried calling it everything I could think of and explained to them what it was used for... still nothing but blank stares. I finally found it after quite a bit of hunting and 3 stores... Heatsink thermal compound is the exact name if you are ever are in a similar situation.

Haha, worcester... I've managed to avoid it almost completely. Only the occasional concert at the centrum or the paladium can get me in there. And I'm only a temporary resident of springfield otherwise I would have avoided it too.

I checked those web sites... couldn't find a rocker switch that was momentary AND had an LED. Also dropped by RS, waste of time as expected.

Any other ideas? I might just replace the power led and use whatever switch i can find... a doorbell is a momentary switch right? maybe one of those would be nice.

yeah, not sure how they work though. Like i don't know if they use LED's or how they are connected. I haven't looked into it yet, but off the top of my head I can't think of any good looking door bells...

as a side note, i wonder if anyone has modded there doorbell with a blue LED...

heh...the doorbell's an interesting idea! I wonder if the ones that light up are all on household current or not...
My favorite is using an ignition key...I've done it twice. It's just about the right size, looks nice, and has the added advantage that you can take the key out, shut down, and unless they think to open the thing up and short the power on headers, no one else can screw with your computer! heh...don't worry, they usually come w/ 2 keys, incase you lose one... :)

yeah I'm heavily considering the ignition key thing... would have been more useful if I still lived at home or in the dorms. But it might still be kind of fun, besides who said modding had to be useful?

My case locks shut too, so I could have a pretty secure computer. Might not be a bad idea here in the ghetto :p

I'm thinking the doorbells have a bulb that runs on household current but I'll check at the Home depot after work.
