Well, let's hope not at least. I got this DIGITAL ON-TIMER (http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=779&item=MCT-3&type=store) from allelectronics.com, here (http://www.allelectronics.com/spec/MCT-3.pdf) is the .pdf file I will be referring to. For power, this unit requests two things: Line (L) and Line (N). The computer power cable is what I would like to use to power this unit, and I know it has three cables inside (forget which colors, black green and blue maybe?), and I know I only need two of them (obviously). Out of fear from either electrocuting myself or frying this component, I come to you people for advice. Which power cable goes where? Thanks peoples....
I know that the title is a joke but someone at my school's dad just commited suicide using something like that.
in UK it is normally brown/red (live) and blue/black(neutral) with green with yellow or no sheath as the earth. perhaps different in the US.. and Lynx, how? computer
Pretty simple actually.. black -> Hot (Phase) Line -> Line (L) white(blue) -> Neutral -> Line (N) green -> ground (earth) -> not used in this application
That did the trick The_Sub! Now, I just need to find something that I want to turn on.... How would I do that, by the way?
Again.. pretty simple.. line -> black -> of the device you want to turn on goes to the HTR terminal white/blue -> neutral -> of the device goes to the Line(N) terminal. obviously you need to make sure the device you are turning on works with 120VAC..
So would the device be pulling power through the timer, or would it still be independant? Thanks! EDIT: Could I use this to say...turn on a computer? Thanks peoples!
Yes the device is powered through the timer. Basically the timer is just a switch. nothing more. granted it it a little fancier than a toggle switch. As for turning on a computer... Well I suppose it could be done.
