does a full size cd drive fit in their i might make 1 for a dvd playbacl pc what board did you use and estimated cost for whole project?.
sorry forgot about this. a full drive will not fit there sorry estimated price, wouldn't like to guess as it isn't finished yet, Any way here is a little update, Top back Back cut out I cut the dot grill out as it sounded like a turbine arty dunno what happened there Front Cut Out Front Not done the cover yet back plate installed complete back todo CD cover, lights Comments etc welcome AW3K
He probably used a nibbler tool. Since aluminum is so soft, it did a pretty bang up job . The case is very sexaaaay Though, I think it would look better if you stealthed the drive...it sticks out a little too much IMO. EDIT : I just read your to-do list...cd cover BTW, is there any way for us in America to get Maplin boxes? So sexxxy
you should take the label off the cd drive, us a hairdryer to heat it up and pell it off, i did that with mine
am i right in saying that i could make one of these boxes and use the tv screen as a pc and watch tv, download stuff, listen to music etc through my tv?.
yea you could... get a slightly biger box and strip a nice wireless keyboard and mouse and remote control (ATI one?) reciever inside it and put a nice little LCD on the front you could use the onboard headers for the USB and serial then to keep it neat. And use the little yellow phono jack as TV out or the DIN one as S-video (also yellow)
i am so tempted to make 1 . Would i just watch tv on normal channels and then switch to av or something for the pc?.
yea prolly. get a phono to SCART convertor (with yellow, red and white phonos)(assuming your TV has it) or if not use the three phonos on the back. buy a lead which changes 2.5mm stereo jack to Red + White (Red + Black sometimes) phono leads and connect that to sound input and use a single yellow wire to connect to video through composite or if your TV has s-video buy a computer - tv convertor which has 3.5mm jack and svideo on computer end and svideo on the tv end (i think) then get a cool application like myHTPC (?) from sourceforge to run it nicely. connect up network and you have offline storage, etc.
Thank you all for the comments I didn't use a nibler. I used a dremal to cut near the line then filed it back to the line, took ages to do but looks neat. i got a cable from maplin that has a s vid and 3.5mm headphone socket to scart. seams to work well. i havn't installed any apps on it yet, Thanks again AW3K
it's amazingly nice but I didn't really like the front... where the cd drive is... the hole around it... got me?? but otherwise it looks damn cool... could I get a picture from the top side??
yeah i see a hole, and my to do list says it will get plugged I'll take a pic of the top soon thanks AW3K
